"ABSTRAKMedia arus utama dan industri perfilman mulai menampilkan sisi lain dari Wall Street sejak terjadinya krisis finansial di tahun 2008. Margin Call 2011 adalah salah satu dari beberapa film yang menggambarkan situasi para pekerja Wall Street ketika mereka harus menghadapi krisis finansial pada saat itu. Alur cerita film ini memiliki beberapa kesamaan dengan kejadian bangkrutnya perusahaan Lehman Brothers di dunia nyata yang dimana menceritakan tentang kondisi para pekerja dalam sebuah firma yang berusaha menyelamatkan diri mereka dari kebangkrutan perusahaan ketika terjadinya krisis finansial. Film ini dipilih menjadi objek analisis dengan pertimbangan bahwa film ini menyiratkan banyak ujaran persuasive. Merujuk pada kategorisasi teknik persuasi oleh Barbara Johnstone 1989 , artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berbagai macam teknik persuasi yang digunakan oleh para pekerja Wall Street melalui analisis percakapan pada dialog formal dan informal antar karakter dalam film. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa baik konteks percakapan formal maupun informal memiliki preferensi teknik persuasinya masing-masing. Sebagai kesimpulan, analisis ini menunjukan bahwa narasi dalam film ini dapat ditelaah lebih jauh lagi dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis tekstual.

ABSTRACTMainstream media and film industry have started to explore the unrevealed side of Wall Street after the 2008 financial crisis erupted. Margin Call 2011 is one of the films that portrayed the situation of Wall Street workers when they have to deal with the financial crisis. The movie plot has similarities with real-life event of Lehman Brother bankruptcy in which it portrays the condition of the workers within a firm that should save themselves from a bankruptcy during the financial crisis. The movie is chosen to be the source of analysis because of the consideration that the film contains many persuasion speeches. By considering Barbara Johnstone 39;s 1989 categorization of persuasion techniques, this article aims to examine various persuasion techniques used by the Wall Street worker through conversational analysis on the dialogues of the characters within the film in both formal and informal contexts. The findings of this analysis show that both formal and informal occasion speech have their own most preferable technique of persuasion. To sum up, this analysis shows that the narrative within this film can be examined broader by doing textual analysis approach."

"Di dalam ilmu linguistik, teknik persuasi adalah satu dari beberapa kemampuan berkomunikasi. Saat ini sudah banyak penelitian yang telah meneliti tentang teknik persuasi. Dalam meneliti teknik persuasi, penelitian-penelitian tersebut menggunakan berbagai hal sebagai media untuk meneliti seperti pidato, film, dan percakapan. Artikel ini menggunakan film Fruitvale Station (2013) sebagai korpus karena karakter utamanya, Oscar Grant III, menggunakan banyak teknik persuasi saat berkomunikasi di dalam film tersebut. Artikel ini menganalisis teknik persuasi yang Oscar gunakan di setiap percakapannya dengan beberapa lawan bicara dari dua ras yang berbeda menggunakan pengkategorian teknik persuasi milik Barbara Johnstone (1989). Dari analisis yang dibuat, ditemukan jika ras dari lawan bicara Oscar tidak mempengaruhi pilihan Oscar dalam menggunakan teknik persuasi yang berbeda. Namun, Oscar memiliki pertimbangan lain dalam menggunakan teknik-teknik persuasi yang berbeda, yaitu situasi dari percakapan yang dia hadapi. Dari penemuan-penemuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan jika di setiap situasi yang berbeda terdapat satu teknik yang cenderung akan digunakan.

Persuasion is one of several useful communication skills in linguistics. There are many studies that have researched about the persuasive strategy. In researching the persuasive strategy, the studies use many things as the means to research such as speeches, films, and conversations. This article uses a film Fruitvale Station (2013) as the corpus because the main character, Oscar Grant III, uses many persuasive strategies in his conversations in the film. This article analyzes persuasive strategy that Oscar uses through several conversations between him and several interlocutors from two different races in the film by using Barbara Johnstone`s (1989) categorization of persuasion technique. From the analysis, it is found that the race of interlocutors does not affect the preferences of Oscar`s persuasive strategy. However, there is another consideration of his preferences which is the situation of the conversation. From those findings, it is concluded that each situation has its preferable strategy to be used."

"ABSTRAKHouse of Cards 2013 - adalah serial drama politik berbasis Netflix tentang anggota kongres politik ambisius, kejam, dan pragmatis, Francis Frank Underwood. Serial ini mengikuti kisah Underwood dari sebagai House Majority Whip kecil dan anggota kongres South Carolina hingga menjadi Presiden Amerika Serikat POTUS sebagai balas dendam terhadap timnya sendiri yang dia mendukung pada pemilihan sebelumnya. Serial ini memiliki beragam isu yang dibahas dalam episode-episodenya mulai dari isu kepentingan pribadi, politik, gender, ras, dan sebagainya. Banyak penelitian telah menggali gagasan tentang dinamika kekuasaan dalam politik dalam serial ini dan juga isu ras di dalamnya, namun yang mengeksplorasi keduanya dengan fokus karakter utama sendiri tidak mencukupi. Dengan menggunakan dua musim pertama dari serial ini, artikel ini akan membahas gagasan pragmatisme ekstrim dan etika egois Frankwood terhadap kehausan kekuasaannya dengan menggunakan teori Weber dan bagaimana hal itu bertepatan dengan masalah rasial di sekitar rencananya.

House of Cards 2013 is a political drama web series based on Netflix about the politically ambitious, ruthless, and pragmatic congressman, Francis ldquo Frank rdquo Underwood. The series follows the story of Underwood from being a small House Majority Whip and South Carolina congressman to being President of the United States POTUS as a revenge against his own team that he endorsed in the election. The series has diverse range of issue being covered in the episodes from self interest, politics, gender, race, and so on. Many researches have explored the idea of power dynamic in politics within the series and also race issue within the series, but the ones that explore both with the focus of the main character himself are insufficient. Using the first two seasons of the series, this article will explore the idea of Frank Underwood rsquo s extreme pragmatism and egoisthical ethics to his power hunger using Weber rsquo s theory and how it coincides with the racial issues surrounding his schemes."

"ABSTRAKFilm Das Leben der Anderen merupakan film tentang Jerman Timur pada tahun 80-an yang di mana pada masa tersebut Stasi merupakan polisi keamanan negara yang sedang berkembang pesat serta ditakuti masyarakat DDR. Melalui film ini, peneliti akan menganalisis konstruksi citra Stasi dan nilai-nilai humanisme melalui adegan, narasi dan perubahan karakteristik pada tokoh utama film yaitu Wiesler. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis tekstual. Teks yang dianalisis adalah adegan dan narasi dalam film. Teori dari Peter Seligman digunakan untuk menganalisis nilai humanisme. ABSTRACTDas Leben der Anderen is a movie about East Germany in the 80s which at that time Stasiwas a fast-growing state security police and also feared by DDR citizen. On this film, researcher analyse the image of Stasithat is constructed and the value of humanism through scenes, narration and the development of characteristic of the main character of the film, which is Wiesler. A textual analysis method is used. The analysed text includes scenes and narration of the film. A theory on value of humanity of Peter Seligman is used on this research. Theory by Stuart Hall, and Syariati are used as a supporting theory for the study. The result shows that there are representations of humanity value such as sympathy, caring and solidarity. The results also showing that the image of Stasi in this film is constructed differently from any similar themed German film. This film offers the audience differen image of Stasiand describes East Germany life in general"

"Penelitian ini tentang pengunaan narasi penyelamat kulit putih di produk media massa seperti film. Fokus riset ini adalah bagaimana naratif penyelamat kulit putih memperkuat whiteness-keputihan sebagai norma dan melakukan penandaan social terhadap minoritas di sebuah negara multikultural seperti Amerika Serikat. Sebagai riset kualitatatif sekunder, penelitian ini adalah sebuah analysis film terhadap Green Book (2018) melalui teknik perfilman yang digunakan seperti mise-en-scene yang membentuk gaya dan sosok film tersebut. Riset ini telah menemukan bahwa narasi white savior--penyelamat kulit putih memperkuat keputihan dengan menggambarkan rasisme melalui perspektif seorang kulit putih; menyampaikan bahwa rasisme adalah sebuah hasil dari ketidaksadaran dibanding sebuah ketidakadilan sistemis; dan membuatkan karakter minoritasnya diselamatkan oleh karakter utama yang kulit putih. Minoritas ditandai secara social dengan penggunaan stereotip dan cara lain. Salah satu rekomendasi untuk riset ini adalah riset primer tentang persepsi para penonton film dengan narasi penyelamat kulit putih.

This paper is about the use of white savior narratives in mass media products such as film. The focus of this research is to see how white savior narratives in film reinforce the whiteness as the norm and socially mark minorities in a multicultural society such as the United States. As a secondary qualitative research, this paper is a film analysis of Green Book (2018) through its chosen film techniques such as mise-en-scene that creates its form and style. The research has found that white savior narratives reinforce whiteness by presenting racism through the perspective of a white main character; presenting racism as a ignorance rather than a systemic injustice; and having the minority character saved by the white main character. Minorities are socially marked through the use of stereotypes and other ways. One of the recommendations for this paper is primary research towards audience perception of white savior narratives in film."

"Tesis ini membahas pemaknaan khalayak perempuan terhadap film Ketika Tidak Bicara Cinta. Film Ketika Tidak Bicara Cinta merupakan film yang mengangkat tema mengenai percintaan penyandang disabilitas yang dibumbui oleh beberapa adegan seksual. Penelitian ini melihat bagaimana khalayak memaknai kisah cinta dan adegan seksual para penyandang disabilitas dalam film Ketika Tidak Bicara Cinta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan konstruktivis dengan memakai teori resepsi encoding-decoding Stuart Hall untuk melihat pemaknaan dari khalayak aktif. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif, hal ini dikarenakan data yang dikumpulkan oleh peneliti berupa hasil wawancara dengan para informan. Teknik pengumpulan menggunakan wawancara mendalam dengan informan. Hasil penelitian ini terlebih dahulu melihat pemaknaan cinta, adegan seksual, dan disabilitas yang telah terkonstruksi pada khalayak perempuan "normal". Setelah itu, dilanjutkan dengan pemaknaan terhadap cinta dan adegan seksual para penyandang disabilitas dalam film Ketika Tidak Bicara Cinta. Konsep encodingdecoding film tersebut menghasilkan bahwa posisi ketiga informan dalam memaknai film Ketika Tidak Bicara Cinta cenderung dipengaruh oleh budaya yang dianut, latar belakang keluarga dan pendidikan, serta pola pergaulan

This thesis discusses about women audiences reception toward What They Don’t Talk about When Talk about Love Movie. The story of this film is about disabilities love and sexual stories. This thesis sees how the audience's reception about disabilities love and sex stories in the film. This research uses constructivist approach along with the encoding-decoding reception theory by Stuart Hall. This research is descriptive because the data that has been gathered is the description from all informants. The data gathered technique is through in-depth interview.

The result of this research is to see audience reception for love, sexual film scene, and disability that has been construct in a "normal" society especially women. Then, it will proceed with women audience reception toward disabilities love and sexual scene from What They Don't Talk about When They Talk about Love film. Encoding-Decoding concept brings a result that the audience receptions depend on their culture, family and education background, also their peer group."
