"The interconnected lives of humans and elephants have shaped landscapes, determined the destinies of empires, and stimulated new kinds of knowledge, skill, and practice. Their encounters have also produced intimate forms of companionship, as well as conflict over space and resources. In South Asia, where many people live in close proximity to elephants, this interspecies relationship resonates with cultural significance. Such diverse, multifaceted, and frequently problematic relations between two kinds of intelligent social mammals have drawn the attention of multiple types of researchers and research. Interpreting this interspecies encounter, however, remains problematic, often producing disparate understandings that resist coherent integration. This volume seeks to remedy the problem of disciplinary commensurability by facilitating conversation across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Bringing together anthropologists, biologists, ecologists, geographers, historians, political scientists, and Sanskrit language specialists, this volume explores the social, historical, and ecological dimensions of human-elephant conflict and coexistence. It engages with both species as world-making subjects acting in ways that profoundly affect each other. This book not only helps us appreciate that we cannot understand elephant habitat and behaviour in isolation from the humans that help configure it, but also makes us realize that we cannot understand human political, economic, and social life without the elephants that shape and share the world with them. Refusing to study animal ecologies and human histories as exclusive phenomena, this book argues for an integrated approach to understanding and responding to the challenges of human-elephant relations.

Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) are the protected animals which have important roles in the balance of ecosystem. Deforestation became the main trigger for reducing elephant habitat. As a result, elephants will start entering plantation and settlement areas to find other food sources. This matter can potentially leads to conflicts between human and elephant. The human-elephant conflict are one of the significant causes in the decline of Sumatran Elephant population in Aceh Province. This conflict can be regarded as an environmental crime, because the impact can lead to illegal killing of elephants. Natural Resources Conservation Center Aceh, as an institution that manages the conservation of natural resources, tries to protect endangered wildlife through prevention. This phenomenon will be analyzed by using of environmental crime prevention concept and its connection with prevention effort for human-elephant conflict by Natural Resources Conservation Center Aceh."

ABSTRACT
The relations between South Korea and Japan has been fluctuating throughout the years. Although there are many factors that support cooperation such as common threats, alliances, and economic interdependence, the relations between South Korea and Japan until now are still marked by conflict caused by historical issues. Through a literature review with chronological mapping, this writing aims to analyze the factors driving both cooperation and conflict and the patterns that occurred in relations between South Korea and Japan in the period 1965 2015. This literature review is divided into three periods, Normalisation Period 1965 2000 , Downfall Period 2001 2007 , and Relatively Stable Period 2008 2015 . Based on the literature review, this final thesis argues that economic interdependence is a key driver of cooperation and historical issues are the key driver of conflict. The present findings might be useful for academics and policymakers to understand the pattern of cooperation and conflict in relations between South Korea and Japan and to serve as a reference for improving relations between the two countries in the future."
