"As a response to ongoing economic, social and environmental crises, many private actors have enlarged their definition of 'value' to include environmental and social elements. Such practices, however, appear incompatible with the current epistemological structure of academic financial discourse. This paradox challenges us to reconsider the foundations of modern finance, particularly the dominant role of shareholders. The volume argues there is a need to turn the established order upside down. Studies in economics and finance have to be embedded in environmental and social welfare to answer the challenges we face, and there is a need for a radical break with the methodological individualism that dominates economics, management and (especially) finance. It is our responsibility to question social welfare when it is defined only as maximising shareholder value. Should we instead promote a substitute to the shareholder? How should we (re)define the concept of value? This volume serves as a stepping stone for rethinking academic finance, and attempts to carve out innovative paths for financial research in the 21st century"

"Sustainable finance is a holistic approach to the sustainability development goals (SDG), so that the interdependence between environmental, social, and governance issues is unveiled. Sustainable finance takes into account the various challenges following from social change and sustainability, the evolution of capital markets, and the development of efficient risk management practices. Governance issues are an integral part of sustainable finance. However, academic literature has generally neglected to consider strategies to prevent and fight financial crimes as a crucial component of sustainable finance. The aim of this book is to focus on the interconnectedness between sustainable finance and preventing/fighting financial crime, not only as a crucial governance issue, but also as a deep challenge for social and even environmental issues. There is no really sustainable finance without developing strong and efficient means to fight financial crimes."

"This study aims to evaluate the number of overviews on the commonalities of socially responsible investment (SRI) with Islamic finance by providing critical thinking in terms of the investment screening process. The main critical reviews are obtained from the articles, paperwork, and previous related studies from reputable open access journals such as Emerald, SSRN databases, and other indexed-Scopus on the Web of Science. This study finds that the commonalities of socially responsible investment with Islamic finance has seemingly been characterized as a slow-moving but unstoppable works since global movements aspire to prevent a transgression of Earth's boundaries towards financial risks. Intertemporal choice accounts for how reliable constitutes for transitioning and adapting planetary boundaries in investment decisions. The challenge is to bridge the postulated gap on the commonalities of SRI with Islamic finance leading into social and financial return aspects in order to construct long-term predictions and scenarios embodying the Islamic finance concept through environmental, social and governance (ESG) approach."
