"Brawls (tawuran) in the slum areas of Jakarta has a complex factors, not simply economic poverty, but social exclusion. Sociologically, the problem of these slums is weak communities structurally, culturally and processually. What they need is not only economic development but a proper social development. This study reveals how the structural-cultural and processual elements are interacting and cross­cutting each other creating a certain quality of socio-cultural life of the slums. The City Government believes that technocratic and bureaucratic development, with an emphasis on economic and physical sectors, will automatically improve the quality of social development. This study however, shows that a social engagement approach is needed to balance the deterministic and bureaucratic approach of the existing technocratic Development toward more inclusive Social Development. "

"Peningkatan harapan hidup manusia akan menambah populasi lanjut usia diikuti dengan peningkatan problem, antara lain penurunan fungsi kognitif. Salah satu faktor risiko penurunan fungsi kognitif ialah social engagement yang dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan tempat tinggal. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode cross sectional di kelurahan Jelambar dan Jelambar Baru, Jakarta atas 286 lanjut usia yang tinggal di keluarga dan di panti werdha menunjukkan adanya pengaruh social engagement terhadap fungsi kognitif lanjut usia, terutama di kalangan panti werdha. Social engagement buruk berhubungan dengan gangguan fungsi kognitif setelah dikendalikan oleh aktivitas kognitif, khususnya pada kelompok social engagement buruk dan tinggal di panti; di kelompok lanjut usia perempuan, social engagement buruk berhubungan dengan fungsi kognitif lebih rendah. Komponen social engagement yang paling berperan terhadap fungsi kognitif para lanjut usia adalah aktivitas di masyarakat dan keanggotaan di kelompok masyarakat lain. Kegiatan ke luar rumah dan berbelanja, dan kerja sukarela/amal merupakan komponen aktivitas di masyarakat yang paling berpengaruh. Di kalangan perempuan, komponen social engagement yang paling berpengaruh adalah keanggotaan di kelompok lain. Aktivitas kognitif yang terbesar pengaruhnya adalah masak sendiri dan menonton siaran televisi berita.

The increase of life expectancy brings a problem of elderly, among others is problem of cogntive decline. One of the risk factors for cognitive decline is social engagement which can be influenced by living environment. This research was done with cross sectional method in kelurahan Jelambar and Jelambar Baru with 286 respondents living in family and institution. Social disengagement was associated with lower cognitive function, especially in institution, influenced by cognitive activity. Among women, social disengagement was associated with lower cognitive function. The most important component of social engagement are to become a member of social club and active in the community, especially outdoor activities and doing shopping for daily needs. Among women, the most important component of social engagement is to become a member of social club. Cognitive activity with biggest influence on cognitve function are self-cooking and watching news in television."

"Lansia menghadapi tantangan dalam menjaga kesejahteraan psikologis, terutama mereka dengan keterlibatan sosial rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara social engagement dengan kesejahteraan psikologis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan cross-sectional dengan teknik pengambilan sampel proportionate stratified random sampling. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 112 lansia di Depok yang masih mampu berkomunikasi dua arah. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan Social Disengagement Index dan Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale (r = 0.325 – 0.783; α = 0.908). Data dikumpulkan melalui pengisian kuesioner dan dianalisis dengan uji Fisher’s exact. Hasil menunjukkan mayoritas lansia memiliki social engagement baik, namun kesejahteraan psikologis dominan pada tingkat sedang (p value = 0.038). Terdapat hubungan signifikan antara social engagement dengan kesejahteraan psikologis lansia di Depok. Kelompok lansia perempuan, tinggal sendiri, tidak bekerja, dan kehilangan pasangan lebih rentan memiliki kesejahteraan psikologis yang rendah. Sehingga, diperlukan penguatan program seperti Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) dan Posbindu Lansia yang mendukung keterlibatan sosial lansia untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup mereka.

Older people face challenges in maintaining psychological well-being, particularly those with low social engagement. This study aims to determine the relationship between social engagement and psychological well-being. This study uses a cross-sectional approach with the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The research sample consisted of 112 older people in Depok who were still able to communicate bidirectionally. The data collection tools used were the Social Disengagement Index and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale (r = 0.325 – 0.783; α = 0.908). Data were collected through questionnaire completion and analyzed using Fisher’s exact test. The results show that the majority of the older people have good social engagement, but psychological well-being is predominantly at a moderate level (p value = 0.038). There is a significant relationship between social engagement and the psychological well-being of the older people in Depok. Groups of older women, living alone, not working, and having lost their partners are more vulnerable to having low psychological well-being. Therefore, strengthening programs such as Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) and Posbindu that support the social engagement of the older people is necessary to improve their quality of life."

Banyaknya jumlah konsumen Daihatsu Indonesia membuat peneliti tertarik untuk mengamati tindakan apa yang dilakukan PT. Daihatsu Indonesia dalam menjaga hubungan mereka dengan konsumennya.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan model komunikasi apa yang digunakan oleh Daihatsu dan bagaimana relasi mereka dengan konsumen mereka melalui twitter. Analisa dilakukan secara langsung dengan memperhatikan secara langsung aktifitas yang mereka lakukan di media twitter. Adapun hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil bahwa PT. Daihatsu Indonesia menggunakan perangkat media sosial mereka untuk menciptakan hubungan dua arah dengan konsumen mereka.

This research has the mean to see what communication model that are used by Daihatsu and how good their relations are with their customers. This research will be focused on PT. Daihatsu Indonesia activity on Twitter and how they engage their customers. The indicators of their success will be based on how frequent they post a tweet and replies their followers tweets. Results found in this research shows that PT. Daihatsu Indonesia has used their twitter to establish a two way communication with their customers."
