"In this paper I report the results of my observations about the development of small-scale private forests on Java Island. During my travels to various villages on the Island of Java, I observed a lot of small-scale private forests. I also interviewed several forest owners. Clarity of land rights, the high demand for timber leading to attractive prices, adequate road network, changes in demographic structure in rural areas, forestry extension, and other sources of income are the six factors that support the development of small-scale private forests. Difficult situation that is often faced by the farmers is the need for quick cash that had to be met from selling the trees that have not reached optimal growth. Farmers from Kulonprogo District-Yogyakarta overcome the difliculty by forming cooperatives in cooperation with the credit union, while the farmers from District of Blora received microcredit from the government to combat the difficulty. Another impediment to the development of small-scale private forestis the government rule, like the SKAU, which is actually perverse incentive. "

"This paper aimed to describe and analyze current state of electronics industry in Indonesia and also makes a particular attempt to analyze the close links between economic and social upgrading within Global Value Chain GVC . Mostly past studies only focused on finding ways to improve the economy, while the social issues are not addressed. The economists have found that increase in FDI and export indicates industrial development as well as deeply integrated in global value chain, known as economic upgrading. Economic upgrading move along with social development. This paper applies a parsimonious measurement approach which refer to the economic and social index that consist of four dimension of growth, i.e. high road growth low road growth high road decline and low road decline to examine how the Indonesian electronics industry has performed during 2000 2014. This paper finds that the electronic industry experienced in economic and social downgrading or, in other words, suffered from low road decline dimension.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis keadaan industri elektronika saat ini di Indonesia dan juga melakukan upaya tertentu untuk menganalisis hubungan erat antara economic upgrading dan sosial di dalam rantai nilai global. Dalam studi sebelumnya, para ekonom kebanyakan berfokus pada menemukan cara untuk memperbaiki ekonomi, sementara isu sosial yang terjadi di sektor industri tidak dibahas. Para ekonom berpendapat bahwa peningkatan FDI dan ekspor mengindikasikan perkembangan industri dan juga terintegrasi secara mendalam dalam rantai nilai global, yang dikenal sebagai economic upgrading. Artikel ini menerapkan parsimonious measurement approach yang mengacu pada indeks ekonomi dan sosial yang terdiri dari empat dimensi pertumbuhan, yaitu high-road growth; low-road growth; high-road decline; dan low-road decline untuk menguji bagaimana kondisi industri elektronik Indonesia selama tahun 2000-2014. Artikel ini menemukan bahwa industri elektronik mengalami penurunan ekonomi dan sosial atau, dengan kata lain, berada dalam dimensi low-road decline."

"ABSTRAKKasus kematian ikan massal di Haranggaol, Danau Toba, Indonesia pada Mei 2016 telah menimbulkan kekuatiran dalam komunitas penambak ikan di daerah tersebut. Kematian ikan massal di Haranggaol terjadi karena rendahnya kadar oksigen di air akibat kegiatan akuakultur yang tidak berkelanjutan, hal ini berefek negatif terhadap kondisi ekonomi dan lingkungan di daerah tersebut. Makalah ini mengkaji kasus-kasus kematian ikan massal yang terjadi di teluk Haranggaol, Danau Maninjau, dan waduk Jatiluhur, serta mengkomparasi tindakan mitigasi dan preventif yang diambil sebagai respons masing-masing daerah.

ABSTRACTThe unprecedented case of mass fish death in Haranggaol, Lake Toba, Indonesia in May 2016 has caused alarm within the community of local fish farmers. The mass fish deaths has been attributed to asphyxiation due to unsustainable aquaculture practices, endangering the economic and environmental wellbeing of the area. This paper assesses cases of mass fish deaths Haranggaol Bay, Lake Maninjau, and Jatiluhur reservoir, and compares mitigation and prevention efforts taken in each respective areas."
