"Twenge, dkk (2007) menemukan bahwa eksklusi sosial berpengaruh negatif terhadap perilaku menolong. Ketika muncul pertanyaan apakah hal tersebut juga memiliki pengaruh yang sama pada remaja? Pentingnya perilaku menolong bagi perkembangan dan peran sosial remaja adalah alasan utama melakukan penelitian. Uji mediasi afek positif dilakukan untuk memperjelas hubungan kausalitas eksklusi sosial terhadap perilaku menolong. Manipulasi diberikan dalam bentuk false feedback tes kepribadian partisipan yang telah mengisi Eysenk Personality Quotionaire (EPQ). Skor afek positif diukur dengan Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS Scale). Penelitian dilakukan pada 64 partisipan remaja pria dan wanita. Divariasikan menjadi kelompok yang mendapat eksklusi sosial (future alone, n=32) dan kelompok pembanding (future belonging, n=32).
Hasil signifikan menemukan kelompok yang mendapat manipulasi eksklusi (M=0,66, SD=1,72) lebih sedikit yang ikut menolong dibandingkan kelompok pembanding (M=0,87, SD=0,33), Χ2(1,64)=4,267, p<0,05 namun manipulasi eksklusi tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap skor afek positif partisipan, t(62)= -1,851, p>0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengaruh eksklusi sosial terhadap menurunnya perilaku menolong remaja tidak dimediasi oleh afek positif yang dirasakan, z=1,44<1,96, p>0,05.
Twenge, et al (2007) have found social exclusion have negatively effect on helping behavior. When a question appears, whether it would also have the same effect on teens helping behaviour? Importance of helping behavior for teens developments and social role is the reason to doing this research. Testing positive affect as mediator conducted to clarify causality effect of social exclusion on helping behavior. Manipulation is given as false feedback of participant’s personality test, who have complete Eysenk Quotionaire Personality (EPQ). Positive affect measured with the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS Scale) on 64 participant male and female. Manipulation be variated as one group receiving social exclusion (future alone, n=32) and the other as comparison group (future belonging, n=32). The results significant finding group has received exclusion manipulation (M=0.66, SD=1.72) participated less helping than the comparison group (M=0.87, SD=0.33), Χ2(1,64)=4.267, p<0.05, but exclusion did not have a significant effect on participants positive affect scores, t(62)= -1.851, p>0.05. The results showed the effect of social exclusion on the decrease teenager’s helping behavior is not mediated by positive affect, z=1.44<1.96, p> 0.05."
