Initiation of joint attention has been considered essential in the establishment of human social interaction. Three aspects are involved in this skill, namely communication, language, and social interaction. These are areas found to be deficit in autistic individuals. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of father-implemented behavior modification in improving initiation of joint attention on a child with autism. The procedures involved were prompt and reinforcement. The subject of this research was a 10-year old boy who was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at the age of 2.5 years. He is now a 4th-grade-student in an inclusive public school. The intervention program was conducted in 23 sessions, with father`s training preceding the initial intervention. The research resulted in the ineffectiveness of the program. Father-implemented behavior modification`s procedures were found to be non-optimal. Father`s readiness in taking instructions, child`s ability in perceiving eye gaze, and family condition were amongst factors considered to be contributing to the results of the research. Intensifying father`s training preceding intervention and continuous evaluation during intervention were suggested for future research."
