"Budaya material mencakup seluruh aspek dunia fisik yang diciptakan atau dimodifikasi oleh manusia, seperti peralatan, bangunan, dekorasi, dan artefak lainnya. Analisis terhadap budaya material dapat mengungkap berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia masa lalu, mulai dari teknologi, ekonomi, sosial, politik, hingga ideologi. Dalam konteks industri otomotif, budaya material mobil juga memainkan peran penting. Mobil dapat mencerminkan karakteristik budaya suatu masyarakat, mengkomunikasikan identitas, status sosial, dan gaya hidup penggunanya, serta terlibat dalam proses transmisi dan transformasi budaya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui transformasi desain eksterior dan faktor yang mempengaruhi transformasi desain eksterior pada dua mobil Mercedes-Benz, yaitu W105 dan W110. Penelitian ini memakai metode penelitian arkeologi James Deetz yang dengan melakukan pengumpulan data (observasi), pengolahan data (deskripsi), dan penafsiran data (eksplanasi). Kedua model ini menggambarkan perubahan era desain yang signifikan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Mercedes-Benz W105 menggambarkan tren desain pada tahun 1950-an yang menampilkan model ‘Ponton’. Selanjutnya, Mercedes-Benz W110 menggambarkan tren desain pada tahun 1960-an yang menampilkan model ‘Fintail’, selain itu banyak juga perubahan desain eksterior lainnya.

Material culture encompasses all aspects of the physical world created or modified by humans, such as tools, buildings, decorations, and other artifacts. Analysis of material culture can reveal various aspects of past human life, ranging from technology, economy, social, politics, to ideology. In the context of the automotive industry, the material culture of cars also plays an important role. Cars can reflect the cultural characteristics of a society, communicate the identity, social status, and lifestyle of their users, and be involved in the process of cultural transmission and transformation. This research was conducted to determine the transformation of exterior design and the factors that influence the transformation of exterior design on two Mercedes-Benz cars, namely the W105 and the W110. This research uses the archaeological research method of James Deetz, which involves data collection (observation), data processing (description), and data interpretation (explanation). These two models depict a significant change in the design era. The results of this study show that the Mercedes-Benz W105 represents the design trends of the 1950s, which featured the 'Ponton' model. Furthermore, the Mercedes-Benz W110 represents the design trends of the 1960s, which featured the 'Fintail' model, as well as many other exterior design changes."

"ABSTRAK
Skripsi ini menganalisis metafora yang ada pada headline iklan Mercedes-Benz dalam
rentang waktu 2012-2015. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kelas
kata dari metafora berdasarkan teori Werner Ingendahl, lalu menemukan elemen
metafora menurut teori Knowles dan Moon, dan mendapatkan ranah sumber
berdasarkan teori Johnson dan Lakoff untuk mengetahui citra produk yang ingin
disampaikan. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan studi kepustakaan.
Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelas kata yang digunakan dari headline
iklan yang saya teliti yaitu nomina dan berdasarkan ranah sumber yang ditemukan,
citra mobil yang ingin disampaikan adalah ketangguhan, cepat, dan terbaik.

ABSTRACT
This essay particularizes in metaphor from the headlines of Mercedes-Benz's
advertisements in between 2012-2015. The aim of this research is to analyze the word
classification based on the theory of Werner Ingendahl, to find the elements of
metaphors from the theory of Knowles and Moon, and to get the domain source of the
metaphors based on the theory of Johnson and Lakoff, in order to find the image
which Mercedes-Benz wanted to show. The method used in this research is qualitative
with library research. The result shows that the frequently used word classification in
the headline is nouns and according to the domain source used, the cars? images
which Mercedes-Benz wanted to spread are strength, speed, and that Mercedes-
Benz?s cars are the best.

"This study is concerned with pragmatics in mass communication, especially about techniques of persuasions applied Mercedes-Benz advertisements published in magazines. The objectives of the study are describing the forms of technique of persuasion and the kinds of persuasion technique based on the images and body copies propositions. The research concerned here is a descriptive-qualitative research which is supported by the tables classifying the data. The data are qualitative because the data collected are in the form of words or pictures rather than numbers. The main data were collected through written text in form of printed advertisement of Mercedes-Benz automobile in time and Newsweek which involved the aspects of linguistic and non-linguistic parts of the advertisements. The main instrument of the research was the researcher herself. In analyzing the data, this research has used an inductive analysis, which is the characteristic of descriptive research. The result of the research show that the advertisements are mostly produced in the forms of picture and caption. Based on the images and propositions implied in the body copies, the advertisement use 6 kinds of persuasion technique. The technique are emotional security selling technique, love object selling technique, roots selling technique, and status symbol selling technique. "
