"Menara pendingin dibutuhkan dalam sistem tata udara pada gedung sebagai pendingin air kondenser. Menara pendingin yang digunakan pada penelitian ini bertipe forced draft - counter flow – indirect/ closed evaporative cooling tower. Penelitian ini berusaha untuk menunjukkan karakteristik performa menara pendingin sistem tertutup berupa nilai efektivitas, NTU (Number of Transfer Unit), kapasitas pendinginan, dan koefisien perpindahan kalor dan massa keseluruhan dari menara pendingin. Eksperimen dilakukan pada penukar kalor berupa koil dengan susunan bersilangan dengan diameter 3/8 inchi, yang memiliki jalur parallel. Hasil eksperimen kemudian dibandingkan dengan korelasi perpindahan kalor dan massa dasar yang ada pada textbook, juga dipadukan dengan simulasi CFD untuk menginvestigasi proses fisik yang terjadi di dalam kolom menara pendingin. Baik eksperimen, perhitungan teoritis, dan simulasi CFD, divariasikan dengan nilai laju massa air hangat, udara dingin, dan air semprot yang berbeda untuk memberikan deskripsi yang jelas tentang karakteristik performa dari menara pendingin sistem tertutup.

Cooling towers are needed in a HVAC sistem in buildings to reject heat from cooling water of a condenser. The type of cooling tower used in this research is forced draft - counter flow – indirect/ closed evaporative cooling tower. This research try to show the performance characteristics of Closed Circuit Cooling Tower (CWCT), specifically the effectiveness value, NTU (Number of Transfer Unit), cooling capacity, and overall coefficient of heat and mass transfers of CWCT. Experiment doing in heat exchanger coils (tube bundle) with stagerred line and 3/8 inch diameter with multipath (parallel path).

The result of experiments compared with basic heat and mass transfer correlations in textbook, and combined with CFD simulation to investigate physical process that occurred in CWCT column. Neither the experiments, theoretical calculations, and CFD simulations, are variated with different mass flow of warm water, cold air, and spray water, to describe the performace characteristics of CWCT."
