The right to self-determination is one of the most international principles of controversy that has arisen since the age of decolonization, which culminated in an increase in the number of independent states since the end of the two world wars. This principle also often triggers separatists around the world to achieve independence, where this principle is often confused with "the right to secede". This is why the international community does not want to use this principle in a free manner, and prefers to maintain other principles of territorial integrity to safeguard the sovereignty of each country. In practice, the application of this principle goes beyond the confines of the context of decolonization and whether this principle automatically entails any right to secession is still an unsolved debate. Catalonia is one of the latest issues related to the imminent separatist movement from Spain using this principle as their justification for doing so. This thesis will try to analyze the implementation of this principle outside the context of decolonization by looking at the relevant international legal rules, and then will connect them in the context of the unilateral Catalonia Declaration of Independence in 2017."

Yang, Xiaodong, 1965-
"The immunity or exemption enjoyed by States from legal proceedings before foreign national courts is a crucial area of international law. On the basis of an exhaustive analysis of judicial decisions, international treaties, national legislation, government statements, deliberations in international organisations as well as scholarly opinion, Xiaodong Yang traces the historical development of the relevant doctrine and practice, critically analyses the rationale for restrictive immunity and closely inspects such important exceptions to immunity as commercial transactions, contracts of employment, tortious liability, separate entities, the enforcement of judgments, waiver of immunity and the interplay between State immunity and human rights. The book draws a full picture of the law of State immunity as it currently stands and endeavours to provide useful information and guidance for practitioners, academics and students alike"

"Summary:
This timely research review discusses key articles dealing with the importance of territory for international law in its relationship with power, state building and globalization. The collection also analyses the evolution and scope of the law of acquisition of territory from colonial times until today, the emergence of new areas for the territorial expansion of states and border delimitation rules. Finally, the review investigates the impact of the human dimension in the way international law addresses territorial issues, particularly the individual and collective human rights, including indigenous peoples and the right to self-determination.--Résumé de l'éditeur"
