"The
pavement of the nailed-slab system has been proposed as an
alternative solution for addressing the rigid pavement problem in soft soils.
This system is used for developing a rigid pavement. The simple method of using an equivalent modulus of subgrade reaction (k?) in nailed-slab system analysis was
proposed by a previous researcher. This modulus consists of the modulus of subgrade reaction from a plate load test
(k) and an additional modulus of
subgrade reaction due to pile installing (Dk). The
additional modulus of subgrade reaction has been proposed by some authors. The
displacement factor was used in determining the additional modulus of subgrade
reaction. This factor is difficult to define. In this research, the prototype
test of a nailed slab with single-pile installation was conducted to learn the
validation of the theory of the additional modulus of subgrade reaction on a
full-scale dimension. The prototype was constructed on soft clay, and the
connection between the pile and slab was perfect monolithically. This system
was loaded by centric load. A new curve of the displacement factor is proposed.
Calculated deflections based on this
curve were compared to the observed deflection and
resulted in good agreement with the observation. Hence, it can be used in preliminary design."

"An efficient Region-Based Image Retrieval (RBIR) system must consider query region determination techniques and target regions in the retrieval process. A query region is a region that must contain a Region of Interest (ROI) or saliency region. A query region determination can be specified manually or automatically. However, manual determination is considered less efficient and tedious for users. The selected query region must determine specific target regions in the image collection to reduce the retrieval time. This study proposes a strategy of query region determination based on the Region Importance Index (RII) value and relative position of the Saliency Region Overlapping Block (SROB) to produce a more efficient RBIR. The entire region is formed by using the mean shift segmentation method. The RII value is calculated based on a percentage of the region area and region distance to the center of the image. Whereas the target regions are determined by considering the relative position of SROB, the performance of the proposed method is tested on a CorelDB dataset. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the Average of Retrieval Time to 0.054 seconds with a 5x5 block size configuration."

"The aim of this study
was to examine and compare the psychological factors influencing driver
speeding behavior in 3 cities in Southeast Asia, focusing on developing
counties, using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Data was collected from
570 respondents in the urban areas of Khon Kaen in Thailand, Vientiane in Laos
and Phnom Penh in Cambodia. The psychological factors of TPB include attitude
(AT), subjective norm (SN) and perceived behavioral control (PBC). These
factors were employed to explain speeding intentions in urban road
environments. The Structural Equation Models (SEM) was used to examine and
explain speeding intentions. The results indicated that the TPB could explain
the variance by intentions of drivers in Khon Kaen, Vientiane and Phnom Penh at
33%, 46%, and
84%, respectively. The most significant of the psychological factors for Khon
Kaen drivers was determined by AT, while the speeding intentions of Vientiane
drivers and Phnom Penh drivers were determined by PBC. From this data, the
authorities of each city should create and implement safety policies that can
improve these psychological factors, which could have a positive effect on
drivers?speeding intentions in urban road environments. The outcome of this
study could be useful for understanding the speeding attitudes of drivers in
three different countries and would be beneficial for the development and
introduction of preventative safety measures in these countries as well."

"The routine daily
activities that tend to be sedentary and repetitive may cause severe health
problems. This issue has encouraged researchers to design a system to detect
and record people activities in real time and thus encourage them to do more
physical exercise. By utilizing sensors embedded in a smartphone, many research
studies have been conducted to try to recognize user activity. The most common
sensors used for this purpose are accelerometers and gyroscopes; however, we
found out that a gravity sensor has significant potential to be utilized as
well. In this paper, we propose a novel method to recognize activities using
the combination of an accelerometer and gravity sensor. We design a simple
hierarchical system with the purpose of developing a more energy efficient
application to be implemented in smartphones. We achieved an average of 95% for
the activity recognition accuracy, and we also succeed at proving that our work
is more energy efficient compared to other works."

"An effective and real-time traffic information network is highly important and could contribute to decreasing traffic volume and costs by reducing fuel consumption and saving time for drivers in reaching their destinations. This study provides an extensive analysis regarding the drivers? acceptance levels of the current implementation of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in Kuala Lumpur. A proposed model from the literature review based on the known Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is introduced. The ITS system characteristics, information quality, system quality, and service quality were investigated as external variables. The resulting analysis showed that information quality is the highest influential factor followed by system quality. The results also revealed that service quality had no effect on acceptance levels."

"In any heterogeneous system, porting reconfigurable computing is often a high
performance platform for a broad range of computationally challenging issues.
However, efficiently utilizing the maximum potential of these reconfigurable
systems is a difficult job without understanding their performance
characteristics. This work proposes an analytic performance model using Petri
Nets (PN) for a Reconfigurable OR1200 (ROR1200) soft-core processor with model
validation and verifications. By modeling the ROR1200 system using Petri Nets,
both behavioral and structural properties existing in parallel systems were
analyzed. The Bound Level Analysis with respect to the dependency level of data
is also performed on Soft Core Processors (SCP) like the ROR1200, the OR1200
and the MicroBlaze."

"A
vacuum drying system is being designed and developed at National Institute of
Vacuum Science & Technology (NINVAST) to dry various materials under vacuum
conditions. Its performance and capabilities are tested by carrying out
different experiments on green (freshly cut) wood samples of Poplar and
Eucalyptus with dimensions of 990.6 mm x 76.2 mm x 25.4 mm and 469.9 mm x 50.8
mm x 25.4 mm, respectively. These samples were dried from green moisture
content (MC) 78% to 10% by this system at ultimate vacuum of about 1.6 x 103
pascal and at a temperature ranging from 35oC to 55oC for
about 20 hrs. Drying quality tests included: prong test, warp measurement,
surface checking and moisture content measurement, which were all performed.
The resulting wood samples showed no dislocation and no excessive stress
buildup. If compared to ordinary drying process, the vacuum drying is rapid and
the drying rate increases with rise in temperature. The designed system is
beneficial for commercial use."
