"Malaysia’s 13th general election, held 5 May 2013, saw an unprecedentedly close race between the incumbent Barisan Nasional (National Front, BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (People’s Alliance, Pakatan) coalitions. For the first time in Malaysian history, a challenger coalition not only kept the BN from regaining the two-thirds parliamentary super-majority it had lost in the previous election, in 2008, but eked out a slim majority of the popular vote. While many Malaysian election is a big event, this one in particular merits close scrutiny. The present volume offers evidence and analysis with which to probe both the merits of common interpretations of who voted how, and why, and to suggest new readings on Malaysian politics."

"The gulf between those who practice grassroots leadership and those who theorize about leadership has been shrinking for some time. Much of this is due to changingimages of who leaders are and what they should do. In the pasthalf century, notions about the essence of leadership have shifted from a hierarchical view that leadership flows from a leadership position to a much more lateral view that leadership roles are available to everyone. James MacGregor Burns’ Leadership (1978), which popularized “transformative leadership,” was one of the first to describe the shift from a command-and-control vision to one that is more inclusive and participatory. Robert Greenleaf’s notions about “servant leadership” (1977) held that leadership should at its core attend to matters of inequity and social injustice. A third seminal work, one that left solely hierarchical views of leadership behind forever, theoretically if not always in practice, was Ronald Heifetz’ 1994 book, Leadership Without Easy Answers. In it, Heifetz introduced the notion of what he calls adaptive work, or the learning required when neither the problem norits solution is clearly defined (a term cited in several of the chapters in this book). Learning is the key term in adaptive work. Because there are no easy answers or singular solutions in adaptive work, achieving agreement on a course of action means first that participants must recognize that their existing perspectives won’t lead them to a resolution, and second that they must suspend assumptions, entertain fresh questions, and try on the perspectives of others. They must realize that a solution is not a matter of applying technical solutions more expertly, but rather one of framing problems differently."

"The opening chapters of this thesis provide an excellent introduction to the various disciplines that are involved in the interpretation of these observations, orbital mechanics, satellite aerodynamics and upper atmospheric physics. A subsequent chapter, at the heart of this work, covers advances in the algorithms used for processing satellite accelerometry and Two-Line Element (TLE) orbit data. The closing chapters provide an elaborate analysis of the resulting density and wind products, which are generating many opportunities for further research, to improve the modelling and understanding of the thermosphere system and interactions with the lower atmosphere, the ionosphere-magnetosphere system and the sun."

This thesis discusses about the declining trend of electoral vote that happened to the Labor Party in England. This study argues that the cause of the declining trend of the Labor Party in 2001-2015 was due to several factors which are related to each other. These factors are globalization, changes in economic structure, changes in Clause IV and policy changes that are not in line with the community expectations. This study uses two theories, namely the theory of Jonas Pontusson which discusses the role of changes in economic structure to the decline of social democracy in Europe and the theory of Jane Mansbridge about promissory representation. This research uses quantitative data collection method with case study. Based on the research findings, the Labor support base has undergone a shift of preference in choosing the representative. In the analysis, these findings suggest a linkage to factors that have resulted in a decline in the Labor Party's electoral vote from 2001-2015."

"This monograph offers a systematic quantitative approach to the analysis, evaluation, and design of electoral systems. Today, electoral reform is of concern to newborn democracies as well as many old ones. The authors use mathematical models and automatic procedures, when possible, to solve some of the problems that arise in the comparison of existing systems as well as in the construction of new ones. One distinctive feature of the book is the emphasis on single- and multiple-criteria optimization methods. This powerful tool kit will help political researchers evaluate and choose an appropriate electoral system.
A general formal model is included as well as a coding system to describe, identify, and classify electoral systems. Evaluation criteria and the corresponding performance indicators are discussed. A treatment of electoral formulas as algorithms to minimize actual cost functions or disproportionality indexes is also included. Neutral automatic procedures for political districting are presented, and the process of electoral reform is analyzed from historical and political points of view.
Targeted toward mathematically trained scientists (applied mathematicians, operations researchers, and statisticians) and written in clear and simple language, this monograph is largely accessible to political and social scientists as well. A basic knowledge of elementary set theory and integer programming and graph theory is advisable, although not essential, to fully appreciate some technical features."
