"Dalam kehidupan berkomunikasi tidak hanya dalam bentuk bahasa namun juga visual. Poster adalah gambar yang merupakan bagian dari komunikasi visual. Penelitian ini membahas tentang makna poster dalam kategori film Avant-garde Uni Soviet yang dikaji secara semiotika oleh Charles Sanders Peirce. Semua Poster yang digunakan sebagai data memperlihatkan objek yang terfragmentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna poster film Avant-garde dengan menguraikan tanda-tanda yang terdapat dalam poster film avant-garde. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitis dengan semiotik Peirce yang meliputi ikon, indeks dan simbol. Simpulan menunjukan bahwa kesinambungan antara tanda-tanda ikon, indeks dan simbol yang menunjukan keterkaitan satu sama lain dan terdapat ikon manusia sebagai pusat yang ditampilkan sebagai alat propaganda.

In life communicate not only in the form of language but also visually. Posters are images that are part of visual communication. This study discusses the meaning of posters in the category of Avant-garde films of the Soviet Union which was studied semiotically by Charles Sanders Peirce. All posters used as data show fragmented object. This study aims to determine the meaning of Avant-garde film posters by deciphering the signs contained in avant-garde film posters. The method used in this study is descriptive analytical semiotic Peirce which includes icons, indices and symbols. the conclusion shows that the continuity between the signs of icons, indices and symbols that show the relationship to each other and there is a human icon as the center that is displayed as a propaganda tool."

"Perkembangan seni lukis avant-garde di Rusia merupakan peristiwa penting dalam sejarah seni rupa modern. Di bawah semangat kebaharuan, avant-garde merupakan gagasan radikal yang berusaha mendobrak aliran seni rupa tradisional sebelumnya. Radikalisasi ini tidak terlepas dari faktor eksternal seperti keadaan ekonomi-politik, perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan, dan transformasi sosial di zamannya. Di bawah era industrialisasi dan revolusi, avant-garde Rusia berkembang dan menemukan dinamikanya sendiri.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perkembangan dan dinamika avant-garde sehubungan dengan konteks sosial di zamannya. Dari penelitian dapat dibuktikan bahwa kondisi sosial dan kondisi ekonomi-politik di suatu ruang dan waktu berpengaruh signifikan terhadap perkembangan medan seni rupa (lukis).

The development of avant-garde panting in Russia is a significant moment in the history of visual art. At the sake of modernization, avant-garde is radical notion that tries to break the previous traditional art. This radicalization can not be separated from economic-politics, the development of science, and social transformation of its time. Under the industrialization and revolution, Russian avant-garde developed and found its own dynamics.

This research aims to analyze the development and dynamic of Russian avant-garde, regarding its social context at its time. From this research, it is proved that social, economic-politics in particular space and time, could influence the visual art (painting) significantly."
