"Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa tokoh protagonist utama, Scout Finch, pada dua novel To Kill a Mockingbird dan Go Set a Watchman. Fokus utama makalah ini adalah mendekonstruksi penis envy melalui analisa interaksi sosial yang mempengaruhi perkembangan karakter, gender, dan identitas Scout Finch. Gagasan bahwa penis envy adalah simbol dari identifikasi dan preferensi gender adalah kerangka dari analisis makalah ini.Hasil dari analisa yang ditemukan adalah adanya beberapa faktor yang membentuk identitas Scout Finch, yaitu norma sosial, norma agama, keterasingan dari laki-laki, dan pengalaman seksual. Dari faktor-faktor tersebut, makalah ini dapat memberikan sudut pandang baru terhadap perkembangan identitas Scout Finch terutama dalam novel kedua.

This research paper analyzes the main protagonist of two novels, To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman, Scout Finch. The main focus is how penis envy can be deconstructed by analyzing her social interactions and its effect on her character, gender, and identity development. The notions of penis envy as a symbol of power and gender identification as well as preferences are the frameworks of this analysis.Research findings reveal that the factors that contribute in shaping Scout's behavior are social norms, religious laws, male exclusion, and experience on sexuality. This research gives a new insight on how Scout identity develops especially in the second novel."

"Karya ilmiah ini meneliti tentang proses transformasi identitas yang terjadi terhadap Josephine Alibrandi dan John Barton di dalam novel Looking for Alibrandi. Josephine Alibrandi dan John Barton berasal dari keluarga yang memiliki latar belakang berbeda. Josephine berasal dari keluarga imigran Italia yang tinggal di pinggiran kota, sebaliknya John Barton berasal dari keluarga politisi di Australia. Walaupun mereka berasal dari keluarga dengan latar belakang berbeda, mereka memiliki permasalahan yang sama terhadap identitas yang mereka punya. Keinginan mereka untuk diakui sebagai diri mereka sendiri mendorong mereka untuk mencari identitas mereka. Alasan saya memilih penelitian terhadap novel ini karena saya merasa bahwa novel ini menarik bagi para remaja dan juga dapat menginspirasi mereka untuk mencari identitas mereka di dalam masyarakat. Transformasi identitas adalah sesuatu yang pasti dan akan terjadi pada hidup seseorang. Josephine Alibrandi dan John Barton mewakili kelompok umum dari remaja-remaja di dunia dalam hal jenis kelamin dan juga kelas sosial. Setiap individu, akan tetapi, memiliki solusi mereka masing-masing terhadap masalah ini dan juga cara untuk mencari identitas mereka. Karya ilmiah ini menyimpulkan bahwa transformasi identitas terjadi pada Josephine Alibrandi dan John Barton terjadi dengan cara yang berbeda. Masing-masing juga memiliki strategi yang berbeda untuk mengatasi permasalahan mereka dan juga mendapatkan hasil yang berbeda.

This paper examines the progress of identity transformation of Josephine Alibrandi and John Barton in the novel Looking for Alibrandi. Josephine and John come from different family backgrounds. Josephine comes from an Italian immigrant family who lives in a suburban area, whereas John Barton comes from a politician family in Australia. Although they come from different family backgrounds, they still have the same problems in their identities. Their desire to be seen as themselves in the society compels them to find their identity. The reason I intend to do a research on this novel is because I think this novel is interesting for teenagers and it can inspire them to find their identity in the society. Identity transformation is something that should and will occur in anyone?s life. Josephine Alibrandi and John Barton represent the general group of teenagers in the world in terms of gender and social class. Each individual, however, has their own solution and way to find their identity. This paper concludes that identity transformation happens in both Josephine Alibrandi and John Barton in different ways. Each of them also has different strategies to overcome the problem and get different results."
