"Human identification is very important in forensic field. Analysis of teeth and other components in oral cavity can make a significant contribution in the process. Palatal rugae, which is one of the components in oral cavity, have a promising prospect in helping identification process because of its individualistic pattern. In special case whereas victim was burnt and the jaw was edentulous, which identification methods using analysis of finger print and tooth examination was not possible, analysis of palatal rugae would be very helpful in identification process. This paper will discuss application of palatal rugae analysis in forensic identification, the benefits and the limitations. Several challenges in the future so that the usage of analysis of palatal rugae becoming wider and more optimal, will also be discussed."

"Age estimation, using forensic odontology, is a crucial step for biological identification. Currently there are many methods available to predict the age of deceased or living persons, each with varying accuracy, such as a physical examination, radiographs of the left hand, and dental assessments. Age estimation, using radiographic tooth development, has been found to be a more accurate method because it is mainly genetically influenced and as such is less likely to be affected by nutritional and environmental factors. The Demirjian et al. method for dental age estimation, using radiological techniques, has long been the most common protocol used in many populations. This method, which is based on tooth developmental changes, is a straightforward process as different stages of tooth development are clearly defined. This article aims to elaborate on the Demirjian et al. method of age estimation using tooth development as a guide. / Phuwadon Duangto, Apirum Janhom, Sukon Prasitwattanaseree, Pasuk Mahakkanukrauh, Anak Iamaroon"

"Forensic odontology (FO) has played an important role in the process of identification of unknown victims. This has help doctor, dentist and forensic expert to a great extents. The process of identification of 2 plane crash victims of Garuda DC 10 in 1987 and Garuda Air-Bus in 1995, and 41 murder victims executed by Dukun AS after exhumationed are discussed here. The need of a well trained dentists in the field of FO is imperative as a companion of doctors and forensic experts in the process of examining cases of unknown origin, criminal cases and mass disasters victims. It is expected in the future that the demand of Forensic Odontologist is a must in several health service centers in Indonesia."

"multipotent mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow are expected to be a somatic stem cell source for the development of new cell-based therapy in regenerative medicines. however, dental clinicians are unlikely to carry out autologous cell/tissue collection from patients (i.e. marrow aspiration) as a routine procedure i their clinics; hence, the utilization of bone marrow stem cells seems impractical in the dental field. dental tissues harvested from extracted human teeth are well known to contain highly proliferative and multipotent stem cell compartments and are considered to be an alternative autologous cell source in cell-based medicine. this article provides a short overview of the ongoing studies for the potential application of dental stem cells and suggests the utilization of 2 concepts in future regenerative medicine: (1) dental stem cell-based therapy for hepatic and other systematic disease and (2) tooth replacement therapy using the bio engineered human whole tooth, called the "test-tube dental implant." regenerative therapies will bring new insight and benefits to the fields of clinical medicine and dentistry"
