"Previous studies of words sued in academic writing have resulted in the vocabulary list of academic english. This study aims at analyzing the use of the world 'etc', the abbreviation for 'etc cetera', which doses not belong to one of that list. It especially concerned with methodological issues relating to the accurate measurement of the usage of that word in academic writing, in this case the data from the corpus of contemporary american english (COCA) and the British national Corpus (BNC). On the basis of findings, it can be concluded that despite the academic writing guidelines in several universty's writing centers in United States stating to avoid the use of 'etc' and substitute it with 'and so forth' in academic writing, the corpus data show that 'etc' used mostly in academic writing compared to the other types of writing and more popular than the use of 'and so forth'. "ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas frekuensi verba dalam buku ajar bahasa Belanda Contact 1 untuk penutur asing untuk tingkat pembelajar A1 mdash;A2. Verba yang dianalisis adalah verba yang termasuk dalam 60 kata yang paling frekuen digunakan dalam bahasa Belanda menurut Bossers dan korpus Dutch Web 2014 nlTenTen14 dalam situs web Sketchengine. Permasalahan yang diangkat adalah bagaimana kosakata yang terdapat dalam buku ajar Contact 1, apakah sama dengan kata yang paling banyak digunakan dalam bahasa Belanda. Analisis dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Data yang digunakan bersumber dari buku ajar bahasa Belanda Contact 1 bab 1 hingga 12 dengan jumlah token sebanyak 61.712. Data diolah dengan menggunakan aplikasi Antconc. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar verba sudah ditawarkan dengan frekuensi sesuai dengan bahasa yang digunakan oleh penutur jati, tetapi masih ada verba yang belum digunakan dalam buku teks Contact 1 dengan frekuensi sesuai dengan bahasa yang digunakan oleh penutur jati, yaitu verba worden.

ABSTRACTThis research aims to discuss the frequency of verbs in the textbook Dutch Contact 1 for foreign speakers for level A1 mdash;A2. The verbs analyzed are those of 60 high frequency words that is used in Dutch according to Bossers and Dutch Web 2014 nlTenTen14 from the Sketchengine website. The research question of this article is how Contact 1 texbook offers the vocabulary, is the vocabulary align with the most frequent used words in Dutch. This analysis uses descriptive qualitative methods using the data from the Dutch textbook Contact 1 from chapter 1 to 12 consist of 61.712 tokens. The data is processed using a linguistic application called Antconc. The result shows that some verbs in the book match the data but there is verb in the textbook Contact 1 that is not as frequent as used by native speakers, namely the verb worden. "
