"The just-in-time (JIT) production philosophy has enriched the classical scheduling theory with models that consider characteristics such as inventory costs, set-up times, lot sizing, or maintenance. This edited volume considers the specifics of just-in-time systems. It provides knowledge and insights on recent advances in scheduling theory where just-in-time aspects are considered. Contributions on models, theory, algorithms, and applications, that bring the theory up-to-date on the state-of-the-art of JIT systems are presented."

"An assembly-type just-in-time (JIT) supply chain system is composed of a main serial supply chain and several branching serial supply chains merging to the main supply chain. Under the assumption of constant demand rate, the replenishment problem in the assembly-type JIT supply chain systems can be formulated as a mixed-integer non-linear programming problem. We conduct thorough theoretical analysis on the properties of the objective function value curve in this study. Following our theoretical analysis, we propose a search algorithm that effectively solves an optimal solution. Our numerical experiments show that the average run time of the proposed algorithm grows in a linear order of the problem size, and the proposed algorithm may serve as an efficient solution approach for the decision-maker."

"Just-In-Time (JIT) merupakan konsep atau kadangkala disebut juga sebagai falsafah produksi. Sebab rnanfaat JIT yang dirasakan lebih dari sekedar pengendalian produksi dan inventori, bahkan menerobos ke bampir seluruh aspek sistem manufaktur, baik pada sistem manufaktur yang bersifat repetitif rnaupun massal. Keberadaan pendekatan JIT barangkali dapat ditelusuri dari lingkungan dan kondisi alam Jepang yang serba sempit, laban yang terbatas, kurangnya sumberdaya alam, serta kondisi yang mendorong penolakan terhadap "llemborosan" (waste) pada masyarakat Industri Jepang. Singkatnya, JITadalah pendekatan yang mencari dan berupaya untuk menghilangkan semua sumber menyediakan kebutuhan komponen dan material secara tepat, pada tempat yang tepat dan waktu yang tepat. Mengetahui bagaimana cara kerja dan implementasi JIT ini jelas akan sangat bermanfaat bagi peningkatan efisiensi, produktivitas dan pengembangan sistem manufaktur kita."
