"Parametric resonance in dynamical systems discusses the phenomenon of parametric resonance and its occurrence in mechanical systems, vehicles, motorcycles, aircraft and marine craft, along micro-electro-mechanical systems. The contributors provides an introduction to the root causes of this phenomenon and its mathematical equivalent, the Mathieu-Hill equation. Also included is a discussion of how parametric resonance occurs on ships and offshore systems, and its frequency in mechanical and electrical systems."

"Nonlinear systems and methods for mechanical, electrical and biosystems presents topics observed at the 3rd Conference on Nonlinear Science and Complexity(NSC), focusing on energy transfer and synchronization in hybrid nonlinear systems. The studies focus on fundamental theories and principles, analytical and symbolic approaches, computational techniques in nonlinear physical science and mathematics. Broken into three parts, the text covers, parametrical excited pendulum, nonlinear dynamics in hybrid systems, dynamical system synchronization and (N+1) body dynamics as well as new views different from the existing results in nonlinear dynamics, mathematical methods for dynamical systems including conservation laws, dynamical symmetry in nonlinear differential equations and invex energies and nonlinear phenomena in physical problems such as solutions, complex flows, chemical kinetics, Toda lattices and parallel manipulator."

"Regularity and complexity in dynamical systems describes periodic and chaotic behaviors in dynamical systems, including continuous, discrete, impulsive, discontinuous, and switching systems. In traditional analysis, the periodic and chaotic behaviors in continuous, nonlinear dynamical systems were extensively discussed even if unsolved. In this book, an alternative way is presented to discuss the periodic and chaotic behaviors in discontinuous dynamical systems."

Spun pile available in Indonesia still uses transverse reinforcement with volumetric ratio that is much lower that SNI requirement. Steel jacket usage on spun pile besides as spun pile strengthening is also to fulfill the requirements of transverse reinforcement. The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of steel jacket to spun pile behaviour to withstand axial and lateral loads by modeling with ABAQUS software. Parametric studies used to observe the effects was done by varying axial loads, steel jacket materials and thicknesses, and bonds between steel jacket and spun pile. Analysis for parametric studies was obtained from investigation of capacity and ductility from curve, transverse reinforcement volumetric ratio, stresses, and strains. It is known that high strength and normal strength steel jacket can increase bending capacity of the spun pile, but also decrease the spun pile’s ductility. Weaker bonds between steel jacket and spun pile can cause steel jacket to slip thereby reduces bending capacity of spun pile. Steel jacket can fulfill the requirements of spun pile transverse reinforcement for increasing transverse reinforcement volumetric ratio significantly and reducing maximum stresses and strains acting on the spiral reinforcement."

"Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are discrete-state, discrete-time, stochastic dynamical systems. They are often used to approximate systems with continuous state spaces operating in continuous time. In addition to introducing the basic ideas of HMMs and algorithms for using them, this book explains the derivations of the algorithms with enough supporting theory to enable readers to develop their own variants. The book also presents Kalman filtering as an extension of ideas from basic HMMs to models with continuous state spaces.
Although applications of HMMs have become numerous (396,000 Google hits) since they emerged as the key technology for speech recognition in the 1980s, no introductory book on HMMs in general is available. This text aims to fill that gap.
Hidden Markov Models and Dynamical Systems features illustrations that use the Lorenz system, laser data, and natural language data. The concluding chapter presents the application of HMMs to detecting sleep apnea in experimentally measured electrocardiograms. Algorithms are given in pseudocode in the text, and a working implementation of each algorithm is available on the accompanying website."

"This book offers the first comprehensive introduction to the inerter, its successful application in Formula One racing, and other state-of-the-art applications in vibration control. It presents fundamental analysis results and design methods for inerter-based vibration control systems. Providing comprehensive information on the inerter, a pioneering mechanical element invented by Prof. Malcolm C. Smith at Cambridge University in 2002, it will be of considerable interest to readers with a background in control theory, mechanical vibration or related subjects. "

"This book reports on a comprehensive study addressing the dynamic responses of hydropower plants under diverse conditions and disturbances, and analyzes their stability and oscillations. Multiple models based on eight existing hydropower plants in Sweden and China were developed and used for simulations and theoretical analysis with various degrees of complexity and for different purposes, and compared with on-site measurements for validations. The book offers important insights into the understanding of the hydraulic, mechanical and electrical coupling mechanisms, up to market conditions and incentives. It recommends control strategies for a more stable and efficient operation of hydropower plants."
