"[ABSTRAK
Sebagai salah satu band perintis punk, Sex Pistols kerap dijadikan simbol pergerakan punk di Inggris pada akhir dekade 1970. Sex Pistols dihubungkan dengan pergerakan melawan pemerintah, dan sebagai akibatnya mereka dilarang untuk tampil selama beberapa waktu. Lirik lagu-lagu Sex Pistols saat itu dirasa membawa pengaruh buruk terutama bagi pendengarnya karena dianggap menyebarkan ideologi tertentu. Sebagai produsen sebuah wacana, penulis lirik dapat menuangkan ideologinya dalam lirik sebagai media untuk menyampaikan aspirasinya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana ideologi tersebut disampaikan melalui lirik lagu dan pengaruhnya terhadap pendengar lagu-lagu Sex Pistols. Penulis menggunakan kajian analisis wacana kritis Fairclough dalam menganalisis hubungan antara sebuah wacana dengan ideologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pilihan kata yang digunakan penulis lirik berpengaruh terhadap penyebaran ideologi tertentu kepada pendengarnya. Selain itu, lagu-lagu yang penulis kaji pun mempunyai kesamaan, yaitu merupakan kritik terhadap kondisi sosial-politik pada masa itu.

"Penelitian ini membahas pandangan dan keberpihakan mahasiswa di Indonesia yang diutarakan dalam teks opini, terhadap pelegalan pernikahan sesama jenis di Amerika Serikat. Teori analisis wacana kritis dari Norman Fairclough diterapkan sebagai alat analisis utama. Adapun teori argumentasi dari Toulmin dan teori metafungsional dari Halliday digunakan untuk menunjang analisis.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penulis opini menggunakan elemen argumen yang dinyatakan oleh Toulmin, yakni klaim, data, landasan, dukungan, modalitas, dan sanggahan. Selain itu, penulis teks juga memilih diksi dan menyusun gramatika untuk menekankan kebenaran. Terdapat tiga data yang digunakan untuk analisis. Berdasarkan ketiga analisis tersebut, dua mahasiswa dianggap cenderung berpihak kepada pelegalan pernikahan sesama jenis dan satu mahasiswa dianggap cenderung mendebat isu yang sama.

This study discusses the views and alignments of the students in Indonesia. Their opinion is expressed inside their text about the legalized same-sex marriage in the United States. The theory of critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough is applied as the main analysis tool. Toulmin's theory of argumentation and Halliday?s metafunctional theory are also being used to support the analysis.
The results showed that authors used the elements of argumentation expressed by Toulmin, such as claim, ground, warrant, backing, qualifier, and rebuttal. In addition, the author of the text also chose a unique diction and compiled-grammar to emphasize the truth. There are three data used for the analysis. Based on the analysis, two students considered likely to side with the legalization of same-sex marriage and one student is considered likely to debate the same issue.

"ABSTRAK
Tesis ini membahas, praktik resistensi dalam wacana lirik lagu grup musik metal Purgatory. Dengan menggunakan paradigma kritis, kemudian mengintegrasikan pada kajian budaya kritis ke dalam proses komunikasi politik. Musik metal dinilai sebagai medium komunikasi maupun bentuk budaya subkultur yang dapat dipandang sebagai medium resistensi yang penting, baik secara budaya maupun politik. Tesis ini menemukan, narasi hegemonik Barat terhadap Islam, yang selalu dikaitkan dengan wacana sentimen negatifnya, direspon sekaligus dilawan balik counter-hegemoni oleh wacana lirik lagu Purgatory. Diskursus yang membentuk wacana lirikal Purgatory yang resisten itu dibingkai oleh beragam konteks diskursus Islam dan Barat yang terjadi di masa lalu baik dalam konteks global maupun saat ini dalam konteks Indonesia. Runtuhnya rezim represif Orde Baru, menghadirkan fenomena ledakan Islam di arena politik dan kebudayaan. Dengan ditandai oleh maraknya simbol-simbol keagamaan di ruang publik, peningkatan religiusitas pribadi serta perkembangan lembaga-lembaga Islam dan gaya hidup baru. Beragam praktik diskursus ini pada gilirannya membentuk sebuah proyeksi identitas Islam yang lebih cair dan lebih moderat, sebagai bagian dari tantangan umat muslim dalam menghadapi sekularisasi modernitas Barat. Tesis ini berhasil menemukan, bahwa wacana musik metal Islam yang disuarakan oleh Purgatory menjadi sarana dalam membentuk identitas, kohesi sosial, sampai dengan politik kebudayaan religius Islam dikalangan subkultur musik metal di Indonesia.

ABSTRACT
This thesis explains a resistance practice found in the song lyrics discourse of an Indonesian metal band called Purgatory. A critical paradigm, alongside with cultural studies and political communication, is used to dissect the problem. Metal music is considered as a communication media or a sub culture form that can also be seen as an important resistance medium, not only culturally but also politically. The research founds that a common narrative of a Western hegemony that has always been associated with its negative sentiment, was responded the other way around by Purgatory. A discourse that forms a narrative resistance in the song lyrics from Purgatory is framed with many Islamic and Western discourse which were happened in the past, globally or in Indonesia only. The collapse of the New Order regime brought a huge Islamic phenomenon in political and culture circle. Religious symbols appears in an open public space, personal religious rsquo lawfulness arises, new lifestyle comes up, and the emergence of Islamic institutions. These various political practices will get its own turn to form a projection of a more balanced Islam identity as a part of Moslems rsquo challenges to face the modern Western secularization. The research also founds that an Islamic metal music vocalized by Purgatory happens to be a tool to form identity, social cohesion, and even the culture of Islamic political amongst metal music subculture in Indonesia."

"Pada 2006 Pemerintah Belanda mengeluarkan Canon van Nederland mengenai para tokoh, benda-benda, dan peristiwa penting dalam sejarah dan budaya Belanda. Canon tersebut digunakan sebagai panduan pendikan sejarah dan kewarganegaraan bagi para guru sekolah dasar dan menengah. Oleh karena muncul kritik terhadap Canon tersebut, pada 2020 pemerintah Belanda merevisinya, termasuk venster (jendela) Indonesia mengenai Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia. Penelitian ini membahas perubahan wacana Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia dalam Canon van Nederland sebelum dan sesudah revisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran, yaitu menggabungkan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif, dengan pendekatan poskolonial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah direvisi, wacana Perang Kemerdekaan dalam Canon van Nederland merepresentasikan lebih banyak keberagaman gender dan etnis dibandingkan sebelumnya. Canon van Nederland revisi juga merepresentasikan orang kulit berwarna dengan agency atau keberdayaan yang lebih besar dari sebelumnya. Canon van Nederland revisi memperlihatkan upaya menghindari bias Eropa dengan menyajikan perspektif yang lebih beragam tentang Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia dan memasukkan penelitian terbaru tentang kekerasan pasukan Belanda dalam Perang Kemerdekaan Indonesia.

In 2006 the Dutch Government launched the Canon van Nederland of important figures, objects and events in Dutch history and culture. The Canon is used as a guide for history and civics education for primary and secondary school teachers. Due to criticism of the Canon, in 2020 the Dutch government revised it, including the Indonesia venster (window) on the Indonesian War of Independence. This research discusses the changes in the discourse of the Indonesian War of Independence in Canon van Nederland before and after the revision. This research uses mixed methods, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, with a postcolonial approach. The results show that after the revision, the discourse of the War of Independence in Canon van Nederland represents more gender and ethnic diversity than before. The revised Canon van Nederland also represents people of colour with greater agency than before. The revised Canon van Nederland shows an attempt to avoid European bias by presenting a more diverse perspective on the Indonesian War of Independence and incorporating recent research on Dutch military violence in the Indonesian War of Independence."

"Seiring dengan berkembangnya pergerakan memperjuangkan positivitas seks, dampak pada budaya populer dan produk kebudayaannya tidaklah terhindarkan. Salah satu dari produk kebudayaan tersebut adalah lagu ―WAP‖ dari Cardi B dan Megan Thee Stallion, yang dirilis pada awal Agustus 2020 dan sejak saat itu menerima banyak pujian dan kritikan karena tema lagu tersebut yang eksplisit. Makalah ini berupaya mengungkap unsur positivitas seks dalam syair lagu tersebut dan dengan menggunakan Analisis Wacana Kritis oleh Van Dijk (2008) menemukan bahwa lagu tersebut bercerita tentang relasi seksual secara gamblang, menegaskan kepercayaan diri dan dominasi figur perempuan lewat penggunaan ungkapan-ungkapan yang berkaitan dengan seks dan kemewahan melalui sudut pandang perempuan dalam ranah musik pop dan budaya populer, menonjolkan aspek yang berpusat pada perempuan dan dinamika kuasa melalui syairnya. Masih dibutuhkan penelitian lebih lanjut atas topik serupa untuk mengamati dinamika kebudayaan dan pergerakan untuk mencapai kesetaraan dan keadilan gender. Penelitian kelak mungkin dapat pula membantu pergerakan tersebut

As the movement promoting sex positivity increases in prominence, it is bound to make an impact on popular culture and its products. One of such cultural products is the song ―WAP‖ by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, a song released in early August 2020 that has since garnered both acclaim and criticism for its explicit theme. This research attempts to discover sex positivity within the lyrics of the song and, by using Critical Discourse Analysis by Van Dijk (2008), found that the song talks about sexual relationships in an unapologetic manner, clearly asserting the confidence and dominance of the female by using figures of speech pertaining to sex and luxury to de-taboo the theme of sex from the female perspective in the realm of popular music and popular culture. The song is deemed to be sex positive, highlighting aspects of female-centeredness and dynamics of power through its lyrics. Further research on similar topics are necessary to help observe the future dynamic of culture and its efforts toward gender equality, equity, and justice, or maybe even contribute to it."

"Semenjak terorisme di Indonesia dikaitkan dengan kelompok Muslim ektstrimis, pemberitaan mengenai Islam di media tidak terlepas dari kedua aspek tersebut.Akibatnya, penelitian mengenai Islam di media hanya mengangkat topik terorisme.Berdasarkan fakta tersebut, penelitian ini mengusung isu mengenai Muslim dan minoritas Cina di Indonesia, khususnya perayaan Imlek 2013 yang dikaitkan dengan isu agama Islam. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian merupakan dua artikel koran. Artikel pertama ditulis oleh jurnalis Agence France Presse (AFP) yang mewakili media internasional sedangkan artikel lainnya dibuat oleh The Jakarta Post yang merupakan media nasional.
Teori utama dalam penelitian ini adalah Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) yang digagas oleh Norman Fairclough.Teori ini terdiri atas dua level analisis yaitu communicative event analysis dan order of discourse analysis. Teori Orientalisme milik Edward W. Said mengenai the self dan the other diaplikasikan sebagai teori pendukung untuk menganalisis konteks sosial kedua artikel. Dalam hal ini, AFP mewakili the self sementara The Jakarta Post mewakili the other. Berdasarkan teori-teori yang telah diaplikasikan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa the self merepresentasikan Islam di Indonesia secara negatif sementara the other mereprentasikan Islam di Indonesia secara objektif.

Since terrorism in Indonesia was associated to Moslem extremists, news regarding Islam has been mostly associated with those two aspects. In results, the concern of researches related to Islam in media only focuses on terrorism issue. Providing this background, this research is aimed to raise the issue related to Moslems and the Chinese minority in Indonesia, specifically in the celebration of Chinese New Year 2013 which is associated with Islamic issue. The data of this research are two newspaper articles. The first article is written by a journalist working for Agence France Presse (AFP) as the foreign media. Meanwhile, the other is written by The Jakarta Post which is the national media.
The pivotal theory applied in this research is Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Norman Fairclough. This theory comprises of two notions of analysis namely communicative event analysis and order of discourse analysis. Orientalism theory by Edward W. Said regarding the self and the other is also applied to analyze the socio-cultural context of the data. In this case, AFP represents the self, while The Jakarta Post is the other. After conducting thorough analysis, the findings disclose that the self represents Indonesian Islam negatively. In contrast, the other represents Indonesian Islam objectively.

"Pemberdayaan perempuan adalah sebuah proses dimana perempuan mendapatkan kekuatan dan kendali atas kehidupan mereka dan memperoleh kemampuan untuk membuat pilihan strategis. Meskipun kemajuan besar dalam pemberdayaan perempuan terlihat secara bertahap, perempuan terus menghadapi diskriminasi di setiap belahan dunia. Hingga saat ini, perempuan masih memperjuangkan haknya dengan menyuarakan pemberdayaan perempuan melalui berbagai media, termasuk musik. Kajian ini menganalisis Five Women’s Empowerment Components (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2016) dalam Run the World (Girls) karya Beyoncé dengan melakukan Critical Discourse Analysis, khususnya dengan menganalisisnya dengan Halliday’s Metafunctions of Language (1994) yang terdapat pada liriknya. Setelah melihat pengalaman perempuan, sikap penyanyi, dan keseluruhan tema dan lirik lagu yang dianalisis dengan metafungsi bahasa, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa melalui lagu Run the World (Girls), Beyoncé mencakup kelima aspek pemberdayaan perempuan, yaitu: (1) perolehan harga diri perempuan; (2) hak perempuan untuk memiliki dan menentukan pilihan; (3) hak perempuan untuk memiliki akses terhadap peluang dan sumber daya; (4) hak perempuan untuk memiliki kekuasaan dan kendali atas kehidupan domestik dan publik mereka; dan (5) meningkatnya kemampuan perempuan untuk melakukan perubahan sosial, baik secara nasional maupun internasional. Studi ini berkontribusi pada pembahasan wacana pemberdayaan perempuan.

Women’s empowerment is a process by which women gain power and control over their lives and acquire the ability to make strategic choices. Although a great deal of progress in women’s empowerment is gradually seen, women continue to face discrimination in every part of the world. Up to this day, women still fight for their rights by voicing out women’s empowerment through various media, including music. This study analyzed Five Women’s Empowerment Components (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2016) in Beyoncé’s Run the World (Girls) by doing a Critical Discourse Analysis, specifically by analyzing it with Halliday’s Metafunctions of Language (1994) that are present in the lyrics. After looking at women’s experiences, the singer’s attitude, and the overall theme and lyrics of the song analyzed by the metafunctions of language, this study concludes that through the song Run the World (Girls), Beyoncé is covering all five aspects of women’s empowerment, which are: (1) women’s gain of self-worth; (2) women’s right to have and to determine choices; (3) women’s right to have access to opportunities and resources; (4) women’s right to have power and control over their domestic and public lives; and (5) women’s gain of ability to make social change, both nationally and internationally. This study contributes to the discussion of women’s empowerment discourses."

"Penelitian ini menganalisis konstruksi wacana mengenai Presidensi G20 Indonesia oleh agensi berita internasional asal Amerika Serikat Associated Press. G20 Indonesia merupakan salah satu mega-events yang mendapatkan amplifikasi media secara global. Namun, format media saat ini tidaklah netral dan agensi berita internasional, termasuk Associated Press berperan dalam penetapan agenda internasional yang dilakukan dengan mengkonstruksi suatu wacana. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menggunakan analisis wacana kritis berbasis korpus dan pendekatan wacana historis untuk memperjelas presensi Indonesia dalam wacana Presidensi G20 Indonesia dan eksklusi serta inklusi wacana oleh Associated Press sebagai cerminan pemapanan kekuasaan oleh agensi berita internasional selama Presidensi G20 Indonesia. Selanjutnya, ekologi media dimana Associated Press bekerja juga dijelaskan dengan konsep multiaksialitas dan hiperrealitas. Analisis wacana kritis berbasis korpus menemukan bahwa wacana yang dikonstruksi oleh Associated Press mengenai G20 Indonesia adalah wacana konflik Ukraina dan Rusia, presensi China pada G20 Indonesia, dan Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah G20 periode 2021-2022. Peran Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah G20 dieksklusikan dalam wacana terkait konflik Ukraina dan Rusia, dan Indonesia diinklusikan dengan wacana kedekatan China dan Indonesia selama presidensi G20 Indonesia yang dipermasalahkan oleh Associated Press. Selain itu, Associated Press juga menggunakan strategi makro-diskursif konstruktif, transformasi, dan destruksi untuk membentuk wacana identitas nasional. Praktik diskursif yang dilakukan oleh Associated Press tersebut merupakan upaya pemapanan kekuasaan yang dilatarbelakangi oleh transisi rezim media yang menimbulkan proliferasi sumber informasi baru di satu sisi, namun masih didominasi oleh sejumlah agensi berita internasional yang saling bersaing dalam menentukan wacana internasional dan masih membawa warisan Perang Dingin di sisi lain.

This study analyzes the discourse construction on Indonesia's G20 Presidency by an international news agency from the United States Associated Press. G20 Indonesia is one of the mega-events that has received media amplification globally. However, the current media format is not neutral and international news agencies, including the Associated Press play a role in setting the international agenda which is done by constructing a discourse. Thus, this study uses corpus-based critical discourse analysis and historical discourse approaches to clarify Indonesia's presence in the discourse of the Indonesian G20 Presidency and the exclusion and inclusion of discourse by the Associated Press as a reflection of the power establishment by international news agencies during Indonesia's G20 Presidency. Furthermore, the media ecology in which the Associated Press works is also explained by the concepts of multiaxiality and hyperreality. Corpus-based critical discourse analysis found that the discourse constructed by the Associated Press regarding Indonesia's G20 was the discourse on the Ukraine and Russia conflict, China's presence at the Indonesian G20, and Indonesia as the host of the 2021-2022 G20. Indonesia's role as host of the G20 was excluded in the discourse regarding the Ukraine and Russia conflict, and Indonesia was included in the discourse on the closeness of China and Indonesia during Indonesia's G20 presidency which was disputed by the Associated Press. In addition, the Associated Press also uses constructive, transformational, and destructive macro-discursive strategies to shape national identity discourses. The discursive practice carried out by the Associated Press is an effort to establish power against the backdrop of the transition of media regimes which has led to the proliferation of new sources of information on the one hand, but is still dominated by some international news agencies which compete each other in determining international discourse and still carry the legacy of the Cold War in the other side."

"ABSTRAK
Tesis ini membahas pesan ideologis yang disampaikan oleh Presiden Soeharto di awal kepemimpinannya. Presiden Soeharto adalah Presiden RI ke-2 yang memimpin Indonesia selama 32 tahun. Wacana pidato ini disampaikan di Manado pada bulan Oktober 1967. Presiden Soeharto melakukan kunjungan ke Manado, Sulawesi Utara, sebagai upaya untuk menyampaikan berbagai usaha yang sedang dan akan dilakukan oleh pemerintahan baru. Di awal kepemimpinannya, pidato merupakan salah satu cara berkomunikasi Presiden Soeharto kepada rakyat Indonesia yang bertujuan menyampaikan nilai ideologi dan cita-cita Orde Baru. Penelitian ini menganalisis berbagai pesan ideologis yang termuat dalam transkripsi wacana pidato Presiden Soeharto dengan menggunakan analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairclough. Pengonstruksian frasa, klausa, dan kalimat merupakan strategi Presiden Soeharto dalam menyampaikan pesan ideologis, baik secara tersurat, maupun secara tersirat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang dibangun oleh Presiden Soeharto dalam pidatonya memperlihatkan hubungan kuasa antara dirinya dan rakyat Sulawesi Utara.

ABSTRACT
The thesis analyses the ideological messages delivered by President Soeharto at the beginning of his presidency. Soeharto was the second president ruling Indonesia for 32 years. The speech was delivered in Manado in October 1967. President Soeharto visited Manado, North Sulawesi, as an effort to tell about the things that had been and would be carried out by the new government. At the early period of his presidency, one of the ways used by President Soeharto to communicate to Indonesian people was delivering speech. This way was aimed at conveying the ideological values and ideals of the New Order. This research analyses various ideological messages contained in the transcript of the speech discourse of President Soeharto by using critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough. The construction of the phrases, clauses, and sentences was the strategy used by President Soeharto in conveying the ideological messages, either implicitly or explicitly. The result of the research indicates that the strategy used by President Soeharto in his speech showed the power relations between him and the people of North Sulawesi."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan pandangan bagaimana salah satu media daring Korea Selatan, Hankyoreh 21, mengkritisi pemerintah dalam salah satu artikel beritanya tentang tragedi Itaewon pada 29 Oktober 2022. Tragedi yang merenggut banyak nyawa ini terjadi sehari sebelum perayaan Halloween. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif yang menganalisis artikel berjudul “‘죽게 만든’ 권력에 통치의 정당성은 없다”.  Metode analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairclough dipilih dan analisisnya dilakukan dengan kerangka dua dimensi: analisis teks dan praktik diskursif. Analisis wacana kritis pada berita memungkinkan terlihatnya ideologi yang ada pada suatu media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ideologi dan cara Hankyoreh merepresentasikan tragedi Itaewon. Nampak jelas keberpihakan Hankyoreh pada masyarakat yang sedang mengkritisi pemerintah soal lambannya penanganan situasi darurat hingga menyebabkan tragedi yang tidak diinginkan. Hal ini mencerminkan peran media sebagai penyeimbang kekuasaan dengan memberikan suara kepada masyarakat yang menginginkan akuntabilitas dan mendukung nilai-nilai etika dalam tata kelola politik.

This research aims to provide an insight into how one of the South Korean online media, Hankyoreh 21, criticized the government in one of its news articles about the Itaewon tragedy on October 29, 2022. This tragedy, which claimed many lives, occurred the day before Halloween celebrations. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method that analyzes the article entitled "'죽게 만든' 권력에 통치의 정당성은 없다". Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis method was chosen, and the analysis was carried out using a two-dimensional framework: text analysis and discursive practice. Critical discourse analysis in the news makes it possible to see the ideology that exists in the media. The research results show the ideology and way Hankyoreh represents the Itaewon tragedy. It is clear that Hankyoreh is siding with the people who are criticizing the government for its slow handling of emergency situations, which has led to unwanted tragedies. This reflects the role of the media as a balance of power by giving voice to the public, desiring accountability, and supporting ethical values in political governance."
