"Berkembangnya teknologi serta gencarnya kompetisi hemat bahan bakar membuat banyaknya tim dari berbagai universitas untuk berlomba-lomba menciptakan mesin yang hemat bahan bakar. Mesin hemat bahan bakar tentunya memiliki dimensi yang ringkas dan dengan kapasitas yang kecil, namun dengan rekayasa teknik tetap mampu menghasilkan daya yang besar sesuai dengan kebutuhan. UI pun ikut berpartisipasi dalam pengembang mesin hemat bahan bakar ini. Riset dan pengembangan telah dilakukan sehingga terciptalah mesin Otto dengan satu silinder empat langkah berkapasitas 65 cc. Kajian teoritis telah dilakukan dalam pengembangan mesin ini dengan menggunakan rumus-rumus empiris pada perhitungan termodinamika. Kajian teoritis tersebut perlu dilakukan pembuktian dan pengujian agar terbukti kebenarannya. Tulisan ini akan mempresentasikan mengenai hasil karakteristik dari mesin Otto satu silinder empat langkah berkapasitas 65 cc melalui pengujian dengan aspek utama adalah daya dan torsi. Pengukuran emisi gas buang dan konsumsi bahan bakar juga dilakukan untuk mendapatkan karakteristik serta kelayakan mesin. Dari pengujian didapatkan daya maksimum sebesar 733 watt pada 2630 rpm, serta torsi maksimum sebesar 2,66 Nm pada putaran. Sedangkan rata-rata emisi yang dihasilkan pada kondisi idle yaitu kadar HC sebesar 777,1 ppm, kadar CO sebesar 0,698 % vol, kadar CO2 sebesar 8,43 % vol, dan kadar O2 sebesar 7,96 % vol.
The advancement of technology and low fuel consumption engine competition triggers numerous teams from various universities around the world to create low fuel consumption engine. Low fuel consumption engine has a compact dimension and small capacity, yet because of the sophisticated development, it still provides huge power as needed. Universitas Indonesia also participates in developing low fuel consumption engine. Through proper and intense research and development, a 65 cc one-cylinder four-stroke spark ignition engine was created. Theoritical overview has been done within the development of this engine using empirical formula based on thermodynamics. Theoritical overview needs to get done in order to prove and test the thermodynamics calculation. This study represents characteristic results of the engine through power and torque testing. Measurement of emission and fuel consumption has also been done to acquire characteristic and feasibility of the engine itself. Low fuel consumption engine should have low emission rate. From the result that given from the dyno test shows that the engine can generate maximum power of 733 watt at 2630 rpm and maximum torque 2,66 Nm at 2630 rpm. From the emission test the engine give a result of 777,1 ppm HC content, 0,698 % vol CO content, 8,43 % vol CO2 content, and 7,96 % vol O2 content."
