"Research about processes and computing is applied to answer the question of what information can and cannot be produced, and to determine the nature of this information (theoretical information science). The book also presents some of the basic processes that are used in specific domains (applied information science), such as those that generate information in areas like reasoning, the evolution of informative systems, cryptography, knowledge, natural language, and the economic value of information.
Written for researchers and graduate students in information science and related fields, Information from processes details a unique information model independent from other concepts in computer or archival science, which is thus applicable to a wide range of domains. Combining theoretical and empirical methods as well as psychological, mathematical, philosophical, and economic techniques."

Ahlswede, Rudolf
"The fifth volume of Rudolf Ahlswedes lectures on Information Theory focuses on several problems that were at the heart of a lot of his research. One of the highlights of the entire lecture note series is surely Part I of this volume on arbitrarily varying channels (AVC), a subject in which Ahlswede was probably the worlds leading expert. Appended to Part I is a survey by Holger Boche and Ahmed Mansour on recent results concerning AVC and arbitrarily varying wiretap channels (AVWC). After a short Part II on continuous data compression, Part III, the longest part of the book, is devoted to distributed information. This Part includes discussions on a variety of related topics; among them let us emphasize two which are famously associated with Ahlswede: multiple descriptions, on which he produced some of the best research worldwide, and network coding, which had Ahlswede among the authors of its pioneering paper. The final Part IV on Statistical Inference under Communication constraints is mainly based on Ahlswedes joint paper with Imre Csiszar, which received the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Information Theory Society."

"This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Graph Structures for Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, GKR 2011, held in Barcelona, Spain, in July 2011 as satellite event of IJCAI 2011, the 22nd International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. The 7 revised full papers presented together with 1 invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 12 submissions. The papers feature current research involved in the development and application of graph-based knowledge representation formalisms and reasoning techniques and investigate further developments of knowledge representation and reasoning graph based techniques. Topics addressed are such as: bayesian networks, semantic networks, conceptual graphs, formal concept analysis, cp-nets, gai-nets, euler diagrams, existential graphs all of which have been successfully used in a number of applications (semantic Web, recommender systems, bioinformatics etc.)."
