"Over the last 50 years there have been an increasing number of applications of algebraic tools to solve problems in communications, in particular in the fields of error-control codes and cryptography. More recently, broader applications have emerged, requiring quite sophisticated algebra - for example, the Alamouti scheme in MIMO communications is just Hamilton's quaternions in disguise and has spawned the use of PhD-level algebra to produce generalizations. Likewise, in the absence of credible alternatives, the industry has in many cases been forced to adopt elliptic curve cryptography. In addition, algebra has been successfully applied to problems in signal processing such as face recognition, biometrics, control design, and signal design for radar. This book introduces the reader to the algebra they need to appreciate these developments and to various problems solved by these techniques."

"Examining the topic from both a theoretical and practical perspective, this book covers a wide variety of topics in digital communications. Notable features include expression of the probability of error in terms of the Euclidean distance instead of the usual EbIN0 adoption of a new approach to the Viterbi algorithm that does not assume any knowledge of the encoder starting and ending states, discussions on constellation shaping, shell mapping algorithm and root-raised cosine pulse shaping, and a unified approach to continuous phase frequency modulation where M-ary FSK and MSK are special cases. The book is well suited for a senior undergraduate to a graduate level course in communications theory. The accompanying CD-ROM containing C programs on Viterbi algorithm, shell mapping and turbo codes will aid the student in understanding these topics better"

"The book tries to briefly introduce the diverse literatures in the field of fractional order signal processing which is becoming an emerging topic among an interdisciplinary community of researchers. The readers should have preliminary knowledge about basic signal processing techniques. Prerequisite knowledge of fractional calculus is not essential and is exposited at relevant places in connection to the appropriate signal processing topics. Basic signal processing techniques like filtering, estimation, system identification, etc. in the light of fractional order calculus are presented along with relevant application areas. The readers can easily extend these concepts to varied disciplines like image or speech processing, pattern recognition, time series forecasting, financial data analysis and modeling, traffic modeling in communication channels, optics, biomedical signal processing, electrochemical applications and many more. Available MATLAB tools to simulate FOSP theories are also introduced."

"This book highlights new methods, algorithms and software for the digital processing and recovery of signals. In addition, it describes a new method for modeling one dimensional and multidimensional signals as successions of local polynomial splines and their spectral characteristics. It provides examples of how the proposed methods can be applied in specific cases, together with signal processing software examples in the MATLAB environment, and models of special processes in the Simulink environment. The books goal is to make it easier for beginners to understand the subject matter; it is intended for engineers, undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research or the evaluation and design of hardware and software for the digital processing and recovery of signals."
