"This study explore modality used in the delegation speeches of APEC conference 2013 addressed in the types of modality, value of modality and the explanation on the modality context. This study was analyzed qualitatively. The finding of this study is the first speech led the dominant use of modalization of probability and modulation of inclination because the speaker in here did not only expressing the ideas but also offer listener to continue his goal. The reason that the speakers use modality the way they use is typically the modalization is used to convey/persuade the listener of the speaker talk about the future political event that have not happened yet and unpredictable things. According to Eggins (1994) in between the polar opposites of “yes” and “no”, there are varying degrees of probability, usuality, obligation and inclination. The first to do how likely the information is to be true and how frequently it is true, which can be expressed through modalization. Speaker used probability, obligation and inclination in conveying their speech at the APEC Conference. Probability is the most dominant of all types of modality with 40,2% then followed to the second dominant is inclination with 38.94%. But the usuality was only found in the first speaker with 1 occurrences (0,62%) while the others were not. The use of modality in their speech the speakers used modalization – probability with medium value. Having this probability with medium value indicates that the speaker convey the uncertainly in giving their speech."

"Penelitian ini membahas pemagaran atau hedging dalam pidato politik bahasa Jepang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi jenis dan fungsi pagar dalam teks-teks pidato perdana menteri Jepang Shinzo Abe. Teks pidato yang dijadikan sumber data berjumlah lima pidato yang diunduh dari situs resmi lsquo;perdana menteri Jepang dan kabinetnya rsquo;. Pagar temuan dalam pidato akan dianalisis menggunakan pagar taksonomi Salager-Meyer 1994 sebagai acuan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pagar yang dominan digunakan adalah frasa pembuka sebesar 50 . Urutan kedua pagar adalah verba bantu modal sekitar 22 . Urutan ketiga jenis pagar kata penunjuk derajat, kuantitas frekuensi dan waktu sekitar 11 . Jenis pagar verba leksikal modal urutan ke empat sekitar 6 . Urutan kelima pagar frasa modal nomina, adjektiva dan adverbia berjumlah 5 atau. Jenis pagar klausa bersyarat menempati urutan keenam yaitu 4 . Urutan terakhir adalah pagar majemuk sekitar 2 . Fungsi dari pagar-pagar yang digunakan oleh PM Abe ini sebagai mitigasi, melindungi diri dari kritik, menunjukkan kesantunan, mencegah konfrontasi, membangun hubungan baik dengan mitra tutur dan menunjukkan kurangnya komitmen atau tanggung jawab.Kata kunci: Pemagaran, pidato politik, Shinzo Abe, pragmatik, kesantunan.

The object of this research is hedging in Japanese political speeches. The objective of this research is to identify types and functions of hedging in the speeches of the Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The data consist of five Shinzo Abe rsquo s speeches taken from website Prime Minister and Cabinet at http www.kantei.go.jp. The hedges found in the speeches are analyzed using the taxonomy and functions of hedges according to Salager Meyer 1994 . The analysis shows that the most frequently used hedges in political speeches by Shinzo Abe is introductory phrases 50 , followed modal auxiliaries 22 , approximators of degree, quantity, 11 , lexical verb 6 , frasa modal nomina, adjektiva dan adverbia 5 , lsquo if rsquo type clauses 4 , and compound hedge 2 . In addition, the function of hedging in the speeches of Shinzo Abe is to mitigate, to protect himself from critique, to show politeness, to prevent confrontation, to build a good relation with the hearer, and show lack of commitment or responsibility.Key words pragmatics, hedging, political speech, politeness. "Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola-pola dasar kalimat mahasiswa dalam menulis karangan. metode penelitian dirancang dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. dalam hal ini, subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa bahsa inggris semester satu. setiap mahasiswa diarahkan menuliskan teks recount dan selanjutnya peneliti menganalisanya. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebahagian besar dari mahasiswa hanya mampu menggunakan tiga pola kalimat dasar yaitu s+v, s+v+o, dan s+lv+adj. pola kalimat lainnya seperti sv+io+o, s+v+o+oc, s+lv+n belum ditemukan. disamping itu terdapat beberapa kesalahan dalam grammar seperti tenses, penggunaan linking verb, parts of speech, dsb. ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa semester satu jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris masih sangat lemah dalam menggunakan pola-pola kalimat bahasa inggris."

"Skripsi ini meneliti bagaimana unsur-unsur ekuivalensi terkait makna denotatif novel berbahasa Jerman Der Vorleser diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan judul Sang Juru Baca. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang berfokus pada hasil terjemahan dan sejauhmana fungsi komunikatif bahasa dipertahankan dalam hasil terjemahan tersebut. Dari hasil analisis korpus data, ditemukan bahwa bukan hanya padanan makna kata dan ungkapan secara leksikal yang dapat mewujudkan ekuivalensi dan efek komunikatif dalam karya terjemahan., melainkan juga konteks, struktur kalimat, dan suasana yang ingin dibangun penulis.

This thesis reviews how the equivalence elements particularly the denotative meaning in the German novel Der Vorleser translated into Indonesian language with the title Sang Juru Baca. The research is conducted qualitatively and focused on the result of the translation regarding how far the communicative functions of language being maintained within the translation. The result of the analysis reveals that the lexical meaning of a word or term is not the only factor affecting the equivalence and communicative effect of a translated text, but also context, structure of sentence, and the atmosphere which the author would like to build."

"ABSTRAKThe focus of this research is to analyze the the use of Active and Passive Form in the translation News Text Prabowo : Ein Geist Namens Vergangenheit. The purpose of this study is to find out, how far a transposition of passive form to active form and vice versa during the translation process of the source text to target text could affect the discourse and meaning of a text. The text is analyzed using semantic and syntax approach, as well as critical discourse analysis to reveal the discourse that is contained in both source text and target text.

Pidato pertama berjudul Tri-Komando Berdjalan Terus yang di dalamnya terdapat kalimat Luns, onze beste goede vriend dan ik dank u wel, mijnheer. Pidato kedua berjudul Kita Tidak Mau Berunding Lagi dengan Belanda, kalau Belanda Terus Mengirimkan Bala-Bantuan Ke Irian Barat yang di dalamnya terdapat kalimat ter zake doende, onze tanden op elkaar klemmen dan zelfgenoegzaam. Pilihan diksi dan gaya bahasa dari Soekarno di kedua pidato tersebut menjadi inti analisis penelitian dalam artikel ilmiah ini. Hasilnya adalah pemaparan tujuan Soekarno menyisipkan kalimat berbahasa Belanda dalam kedua pidatonya yang berkaitan dengan perjuangan perebutan Irian Barat.

This article is analyze language and dictions on Dutch`s sentences from two Soekarno`s speech. First speech is Tri-Komando Berdjalan Terus which have words “Luns, onze beste goede vriend dan ik dank u wel, mijnheer”. Second speech that this article discuss is Kita Tidak Mau Berunding Lagi dengan Belanda, kalau Belanda Terus Mengirimkan Bala-Bantuan Ke Irian Barat which have words ter zake doende, onze tanden op elkaar klemmen and zelfgenoegzaam. Diction and language style of Soekarno in his two speech are the main point of analysis in this article. The result of this article is an explanation the purpose of Soekarno put the Dutch on him speech which have related to the struggle of Irian Barat."
