"Universitas Terbuka (UT) sebagai institusi petndidikan tinggi terbuka jarak jauh perlu memiliki data mengenai apa alasan mahasiswa masuk UT dan apa alasan mereka memilih program studi. Data tersebut dapat diperoleh dari alumni yang baru saja lulus, untuk itu UT telah mengembangkan aplikasi exit survey. Ada dua program yang dikelola UT yaitu Program Reguler atau Non-Pendas dan Program Pendidikan Dasar (Pendas). Dalam penelitian ini responden exit survey dari program reguler sebanyak 3.190 dan Program Pendas berjumlah 34.856, yang merupakan lulusan UT pada masa yudisium 2009.2 sampai dengan 2010.2. Hasil pengolahan data exit survey memperlihatkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan mengenai alasan masuk UT dan alasan memilih program studi, antara alumni program pendas dan reguler. Alasan utama masuk UT bagi alumni program reguler maupun pendas adalah menambah pengetahuan. Sedangkan alasan utama memilih program studi bagi alumni program reguler adalah menunjang pekerjaan, sementara alumni program pendas adalah menambah pengetahuan. Di masa yang akan datang data yang diperoleh dari exit survey dapat digunakan untuk sosialisasi dan promosi, meningkatkan jumlah mahasiswa, serta menurunkan jumlah mahasiswa non-aktif."

"Several researchers on learning styles and learning strategies had been conducted at Universitas Terbuka (UT). It had found out that students tend to have visual learning style. Different learning styles and learning strategies might be happened in students at each regional office due to the influence of local ethnicity. This article written based on research conducted to determine the tendency of students' learning styles and strategies at the Regional Center (UPBJJ-UT) Medan compared to UT's students learning styles and strategies in general. Comparition was also done between exacta students and non exacta students in the UPBJJ-UT Medan. Data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive method. The finding showed that: (1)the students learning styles at the UPBJJ-UT Medan tend to be similar with the students of UT in general, which was visual learning styles (2) there were different learning styles between exacta students and non-exacta students (3) Students' learning strategies at the UPBJJ-UT Medan have not been effective. It was suggested that UPBJJ-UT Medan should help students by developing a handbook or manual of self-learning strategies which could be socialized continously at the New Student Orientation Study (OSMB) and through the web site."

"The Agribussiness Study Program at Univeritas Terbuka, The Indonesian Open University, was created with a goal of producing graduates who are competent in the field of extention and communication of agribussiness. One way to achieve this goal is to create a curriculum that develops competencies in both hard and softskills that are relevant to the professional demands of graduates. Hard skill to be acquired include the application of methods and skills of agricultural extentions that will be applied in the field. Soft skills include competencies such as the ability to communicate, work in teams, leadership, and problem solving. The Agribussiness Study Program allows graduates to acquire key competencies by incorporating some practical courses in its curriculum. The presentation will describe the comparison of practical implementation of the management between an agricultural extention study program and the agribussiness study program. The topics discussed in this presentation will adress the implementation of practical management skills in the Agricultural Extention and Agribussiness Study Programs, including strengths and weaknesses, various obstacles, and how obstacles were overcome. The result study shows that the managing of the practical implementation of PS Agribussiness can be done independently as long as the equipments can be provided as the need in the field."

"This paper adresses the Universitas Terbuka (UT) students' perception on quality assurance (QA) system of distance education, using an online survey method involving 306 students. The UT students' perception on QA systm is analyzed in terms of profile of respondents, perception on important values of QA, students of satisfaction on the uquality of distance education programs and courses. The profile of the respondents shows that most of them are within the age of 25 to 30 years old. They study at UT mostly by means of reading printed materials and interactive online studies at home and at no particular place in the evenings. Students' difficulties in distance related to conflicts with work responsibilities, lack of time and self motivation. Students said that they needed both academic and social psychological support. Students' perception on important values on QA was expressed in terms of the availability and clear for QA system in the institution. In terms of institutional credibility, students stated thar external accreditation and qualified staff are key factors to institutional quality. In terms of learning process, students valued highly the importance of well structured courses and interactivity in the learning process. Students also stated that media technology supports, faculty support, and fair assessment are important in the quality of teaching learning at a distance. In terms of learning experience, they perceived that protection student rights, course content, and technology infrastructure were well facilitated by the institution."

"Students' knowledge on system for open and distance learning (ODL) is important since the information will be usefull in improving students' services. This article discusses students' understanding on ODL system and factors that affect it. The sample were 380 students from UPBJJ-UT Banda Aceh. Data collection was carried out from May to October 2011. Correlation test of Rank Spearman was used to analyze the data. The result showed that (1) students' knowledge on distance learning system was low (2) factors which influences students knowledge on ODL system were ability in using internet, study group and information access."

"Face-to-face tutorial is a type of student services provided by Universitas Terbuka at each regiional central center. Factors which influence the effectiveness of face-to-face tutorial in Banda Aceh regional center were discussed.The research method was descriptive-corelational. There were 66 tutors as respondents filled the questionnaire. Data collection was carried out from april until june 2010. In analyzing the data, correlation test of rank spearman was used. The result showed thet (1) the effectiveness of face-to-face tutorial was at medium level; (2) factors which influence the effectiveness of face-to-face tutorial were the infrastructure, the contribution of regional center and the quantity of face-to-face tutorial.

"UT has implemented computerized system for registration and examination which require accurate data and information entered. This research was conducted to analyze factors related to the accuracy of students' data and information on the examination. A hundred students from Jakarta and Mataram regional Centers, who have taken examination on the 1 and 2 semester in 2009, were randomly selected as a respondents, but only 58 studes ts had responden. Primary and secondary data were collected and analyzed describetively. Result showed that most of the students who took examination were 36-50 years old (48.28%), already have job (79.31%) and first registered about 5 years before the last examination (74.14%). In terms of the administration of registration, most of the students said that they did it by themselves (89.66%), at UT's regional center (50%) and before the registration period ended (100%). The result also showed that student still made mistakes in filling the examination forms, especially data about the date of birth (20.69%), students' number identification (18,97%), and subject matter code (22,41%). About the role of the examination proctor, most of the students commented that they had come ontime to examination room (98.28%), provide very clear briefing (87.93%), and examining students data accurately (86.21%). Result of Rank Spearman Correlation Coefficient indicated that factors that significantly related to the accuracy of students data on the xamination (a=0.05) are the age of students, time of registration, registration conductor, the clarity of briefing, and the accuracy of proctors in examining students data."

"The study of the character and its development at distance education system is a new intensive effort since 2000s period. Nevertheless, various studies show a clear trend to the development of four characters that were performance, relational, moral, and spiritual. The four character developments have reflected and integrated in the various context of using and designing of DE technologies, and it also become main characteristic in the study and development of character at DE. This paper reviews the various studies about the characters and its developments in the DE context, and some of the efforts made by DE providers."

"Online tutorials as a form of student services is expected to contribute to the success of student learning. This article written based on the research of the tutorial activities of strategic management courses (EKMA4414) and students learning outcomes in the registration period of 2009.1 at UPBJJ-UT Batam. Data were collected using purposive sampling of 167 students registered in the tutorial. Result were analyzed descriptively. The result showed that the initiation of online tutorials materials of strategic management course were generally in line with course objectives. However the presentation is said to be less systematically delivered by most students. This causes some students to not actively engaged in the tutorial and do the exercises and tasks. However, for students who are actively following tutorial by participating in discussion and exercises, their activities contribute to the final grade."
