"Penelitian ini mengkaji resepsi pembaca fan fiksi subgenre alternate universe (AU) yang menggunakan face claim atau visualisasi tokoh di media sosial Twitter. Penelitian ini melihat AU dalam ruang media baru yang mesti dipahami dalam konteks transmedia storytelling dan budaya konvergensi atau convergence culture . Studi resepsi encoding/decoding dari Stuart Hall digunakan untuk memahami fenomena yang diteliti. Penulis AU dan enam pembaca menjadi sumber data dalam penelitian kualitatif interpretif yang dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga posisi pembacaan: dominan, negosiasi, dan negasi, namun ketiganya bersifat dinamis dan bukan trikotomis seperti asumsi Stuart Hall. Hubungan parasosial, pengalaman, posisi sosial, emosional, kecakapan terhadap teknologi, dan sosiodemografi pembaca dalam proses resepsi menciptakan posisi pembacaan yang dinamis dan kontekstual. Rekomendasi terkait studi kedepan dan implikasi praktis diajukan dalam tesis ini.

This research examines fan fiction readers' receptions of Alternate Universe (AU) using face claims or face visualization on Twitter. This research sees AU in a new media space that must be understood in the context of transmedia storytelling and convergence culture. Stuart Hall's encoding/decoding reception study is used to understand the phenomenon under study. The AU writer and six readers became the data sources in the interpretative qualitative research conducted. The results show that there are three reading positions: dominant, negotiation, and negation, but the three are dynamic and not trichotomous as assumed by Stuart Hall. The reader's parasocial, experiential, environmental, emotional, technological, and sociodemographic relationships in the reception process create dynamic and contextualized reading positions. Recommendations regarding future research and practical implications are proposed in this thesis."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas pengaruh keanggotaan fans club berbayar terhadap sikap fans, motivasi bergabung dan citra Manchester United. Manchester United merupakan klub sepak bola papan atas yang memiliki banyak fans di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan descriptive research design dengan metode survey yang dilakukan terhadap fans Manchester United. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah nonprobability sampling yaitu menggunakan accidental sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner. Penelitian ini diolah dengan software SPSS 20.0, menggunakan teknik regresi linier sederhana. Hasil pengolahan data menunjukkan keanggotaan berbayar pada fans club berpengaruh positif terhadap sikap fans. Keanggotaan berbayar pada fans club berpengaruh negatif terhadap motivasi untuk bergabung pada fans club. Keanggotaan berbayar pada fans club berpengaruh positif terhadap citra klub.

ABSTRACTThis study discusses the effect of fan club membership paid to the fans attitude, join motivation and image of Manchester United. Manchester United is a football club who has many fans in Indonesia. This study using a descriptive research design with survey method (questionnaire) that conducted on the Manchester United fans. The sampling technique was using nonprobability sampling. It is using accidental sampling. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires. This study was processed with SPSS 20.0 software, using simple linear regression technique. The result of data processing show a paid membership on fans club positively effect to the attitude of the fans. Paid membership on fans club negatively affect to the motivation to join the fan club. Paid membership on fans club positively affect to the image of the club."

"Penulisan fanfiction atau karya penggemar menimbulkan pertanyaan mengenai status serta perlindungan hukum hak cipta yang diberikan baik kepada pencipta ataupun penulis karya fanfiction tersebut. Hal ini dikarenakan penulisan karya fanfiction tersebut tanpa izin dari pencipta dan/atau pemegang hak cipta karya asli. Dalam penelitian ini, metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian hukum normatif atau metode penelitian hukum kepustakaan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa karya fanfiction merupakan karya turunan yang tidak memiliki izin sehingga tidak mendapatkan perlindungan hak cipta. Bagi pencipta atau pemegang hak cipta, penulisan fanfiction merupakan pelanggaran hak moral dan/atau hak ekonomi mereka sehingga terdapat perlindungan preventif maupun represif yang dapat digunakan terhadap penulisan fanfiction tersebut. Sedangkan penulis fanfiction dapat menggunakan doktrin fair use sebagai perlindungan terhadap gugatan pelanggaran hak cipta yang diajukan kepadanya. Apabila fanfiction telah dimodifikasi sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak memiliki kesamaan substansial dengan karya aslinya, maka akan menghasilkan karya transformatif yang dilindungi oleh hak cipta. Karena penulisan karya fanfiction pada dasarnya merupakan pelanggaran hak cipta, maka penggemar sebaiknya melihat terlebih dahulu pendapat pencipta atau pemegang hak cipta mengenai penulisan fanfiction dan tidak mengkomersialisasikan fanfiction tersebut untuk mencegah gugatan pelanggaran hak cipta.

The writing of fanfiction raises questions about the legality and copyright protection of either the author or the writer of the fanfiction itself. These questions occurred from the fact that the writing of fanfiction are done without the consent of the author and or copyright holder. The form of method that used to conduct this research is a normative judicial research. This research shows that fanfiction is an unauthorized derivative work, therefore does not hold a copyright protection. For either the author or copyright owner, the writing of fanfiction is a form of moral right and or economic right infringement, and for that there are preventive and repressive protections that can be used to protect their rights. On the other hand, the fair use doctrine can be used by the writer fanfiction as a defense against copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the copyright owner. A fanfiction that has been modified and changed in a way that it does not hold any substantial similarity with the original work falls under the transformative work, hence protected by the copyright law. Since the writing of fanfiction is a copyright infringement, fanfiction writer need to look further at whether or not the author or copyright owner approves of the writing of fanfiction based on their work and not to commercialize their fanfiction to avoid copyright infringement lawsuit."
