"Indonesia's geographic expanse and urgent need monitoring natural resourches make it a potentially large user of satellite remote sensing products. After a brief presentation of major institutions, universities, and organizations dealing with this technique, the paper reviews and analyses major constraints, i.e. cloud cover, atmosphere, landscape, and equipment. It is followed by some examples of SPOT-derived local operational achievements. These are related to cartographic aspects, land cover mapping, agricultural-suburban interface, forestly, soils and geology. Finally, economic aspects and perspectives are considered. As confirmed by other independent works, the SPOT-derived examples stress that this type of data, especially the 10m resolution data, seem to offer a viable alternative to more expensive aerial photographs, particularly when repetive coverage is required."

"Teknologi penginderaan jauh menggunakan satelit saat ini berkembang semakin pesat. Skripsi ini membahas mengenai bagaimana aspek kedaulatan negara objek penginderaan dalam penggunaan data hasil penginderaan jauh satelit, termasuk penerapan perlindungan kedaulatan negara tersebut ke dalam peraturan hukum nasional negara pengindera dan negara yang diindera. Terdapat tiga permasalahan yang dibahas dalam skripsi ini yaitu (1) penggunaan dan pengaturan mengenai penginderaan jauh satelit menurut hukum internasional, (2) perlindungan hukum terhadap kedaulatan negara objek penginderaan jauh, dan (3) penerapan perlindungan terhadap negara objek penginderaan jauh dalam peraturan nasional baik di negara pengindera dan di negara yang diindera. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah yuridis-nomatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mengenai perlindungan kedaulatan negara objek penginderaan terhadap data yang diambil dengan penginderaan jauh satelit belum diatur dalam hukum internasional secara spesifik. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa perlindungan terhadap kedaulatan negara objek penginderaan ini dilakukan dengan peraturan masing-masing negara, baik negara pengindera dan negara yang diindera, dan juga dengan menggunakan perjanjian bilateral.

Currently, remote sensing satellite technology is rapidly growing. This thesis discusses the protection of sensed state sovereignty over its data from the remote sensing satellites activities, including the implementation of sovereignty`s protection into the sensing states and sensed state`s national legislations. There are three issues discussed in this thesis: (1) the use and regulations on remote sensing satellites under international law, (2) the legal protection of sensed state`s sovereignty, and (3) the implementation of sensed state`s sovereignty into national legislation of sensed states and sensing states. This research uses juridical-normative approach. The result of this research reveals that there is no distinctive law regulating protection over sensed state`s sovereignty about its data from the remote sensing satellite. It is concluded that the protection of sensed state`s sovereignty can be regulated by the national regulation of each states, and also by bilateral agreements."
