ABSTRACT
In Indonesia, cabbage are often eaten raw as salad, it can increase the incidence of intestinal parasitic infections.

We can get a lot of benefit by consuming vegetables. But, vegetables also can be a medium to transmit parasites (STH and protozoa) and increase the morbidity because of infection. Some researches proved parasites contamination in any vegetables with vary of number. It is worsen by a habit to consume raw vegetables (lalap) in Indonesia. This research was done by using cabbage that often consume uncooked.
This research wants to know the difference parasites quantity in cabbage from traditional and modern market and also the effectiveness between salt-acid solution and water as immersion medium. This cross-sectional research use 20 samples of cabbages from traditional market and 20 samples of cabbages from modern market in Jakarta.
The result show a different parasites quantity (p value = 0,006) between cabbage from traditional market (2570 parasites) and modern market (1610 parasites). All of samples (traditional and modern market) are contaminated by STH, 9 of 20 cabbages from traditional market and 7 of 20 cabbages from modern market are contaminated by protozoa. And also there is a different parasites quantity (p value < 0,05) found in cabbage using salt-acid solution then water only. As conclusion number of parasites found in cabbages from traditional market is higher than cabbages from modern market and using salt-acid as immersion medium is better than water only."

Didapatkan 100% sampel kemangi terkontaminasi parasit usus.

Raw vegetables can increase probability of intestinal parasite transmission to human body. People believe that hygienity of raw foods sold in supermarkets, including vegetables, are better than traditional markets. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was difference in the number of intestinal parasite found in basil collected from traditional markets and supermarkets in Jakarta. There were 20 samples collected from traditional markets and 20 samples obtained from supermarkets. The samples were soaked in saturated salt solution (sodium chloride) for 24 hours. Then, the water immersion of basil was treated with sedimentation test to get the number of intestinal parasite.
A hundred percent out of 40 samples was contaminated with intestinal parasite. The number of intestinal parasite found in basil collected from traditional market was 1630/ml and from supermarket was 1400/ml (p>0,05). The highest number of contamination was come from intestinal protozoa, Giardia lamblia. Sample submersion method with saturated salt solution influenced this study (p<0,05).
This finding indicates that basil is able to be a transmission media of intestinal parasite to human body. We suggest the consumer to properly wash vegetables obtained from two groups of markets before being consumed, especially vegetables consumed without cooking."

This study used cross sectional design with stool samples in Laboratory of Parasitology FKUI. Sampels are examined by flotation of saturated sugar and saturated NaCl with aim of this study was to compare effectiveness both solutions. Wilcoxon test showed significantly different between saturated sugar solution and saturated NaCl solution in detecting eggs of Ascaris lumbricoides p 0,002 and Trichuris trichiura p 0,002 . Mean of eggs that found by saturated sugar for A. lumbricoides was 3.346,9 gram and for T. trichiura was 149,2 gram. If these were compared with mean of eggs that found by saturated NaCl that was 1.385,2 gram for A. lumbricoides and 35,2 gram for T. trichiura, saturated sugar is better than saturated NaCl in detecting eggs of intestinal helminths. It was caused by saturated sugar rsquo s specific gravity can cover range of eggs rsquo specific gravity so eggs could float. Unlike saturated sugar, saturated NaCl could not float the eggs that have specific gravity more than solution rsquo s specific gravity. Therefore saturated sugar can be recommended to be used as a routine solution replaces saturated NaCl in stool examination flotation method."

ABSTRACT
Intestinal parasites infection is a widespread problem in developing countries, including Indonesia. It spreads among the people living in overcrowded population with poor sanitation and lack of clean water. This problem needs attention because it gives negative impacts on the growth and development process of children. The purpose of this research is to find the prevalence of intestinal parasite among elementary school students in Setu, Bekasi. This research is an analytical-observative research with cross-sectional study using students in state elementary school and madrasah ibtidaiyah as subjects. Explaining the procedure and collecting samples on the next day were conducted in this research. The examination uses direct examination method using microscope in parasitology laboratorium.
From 133 samples, there were 65,4% positive result. Most of them are Blastocystis hominis. Prevalence of parasites on boys are 72,1% and on girls are 59,7%. Prevalence of parasites was 66,6% in madrasah ibtidaiyah and 64,67% in state elementary school. Chi square test shows that there is no relationship between intestinal parasite infection with either gender (p=0,134) or type of school (p=0,792). It means all boys and girls studying in state elementary school or madrasah ibtidaiyah have the same possibility to be infected by intestinal parasites."
