ABSTRACT
Basil is often consumed uncooked, instance as lalapan, but it can be a medium of transmission of the intestinal parasites infection, Soil Transmitted Helminthes (STH) and protozoan cysts. This research used an observational analytic crosssectional method, which used 40 samples of basil purchased randomly from the traditional and selfservice markets in Jakarta. Twenty samples from traditional markets and 20 samples from selservice markets were soaked in acetous salt solution and water as a control study to obtain the number of STH eggs or protozoan cysts. Data were processed by SPSS 20 version then analyzed by t test or Mann Whitney. Result of research showed 14 samples were contaminated by STH, 7 from traditional markets and 7 from selfservice markets, and all samples (100%) were contaminated by protozoan cysts. The number of parasites is 1780 from traditional markets and 1550 from selfservice markets. Results of this research showed, there was no significant difference (p>0.05) between the prevalence of intestinal parasites in traditional and selfservice markets in Jakarta, and there was significant difference (p<0.05) between the prevalence of intestinal parasites by sedimentation method in acetous salt solution and water. Type of market does not affect the prevalence of intestinal parasites in basil, and acetous salt solution as soaking media in sedimentation method, affects the prevalence of parasites.;Basil is often consumed uncooked, instance as lalapan, but it can be a medium of transmission of the intestinal parasites infection, Soil Transmitted Helminthes (STH) and protozoan cysts.

We can get a lot of benefit by consuming vegetables. But, vegetables also can be a medium to transmit parasites (STH and protozoa) and increase the morbidity because of infection. Some researches proved parasites contamination in any vegetables with vary of number. It is worsen by a habit to consume raw vegetables (lalap) in Indonesia. This research was done by using cabbage that often consume uncooked.
This research wants to know the difference parasites quantity in cabbage from traditional and modern market and also the effectiveness between salt-acid solution and water as immersion medium. This cross-sectional research use 20 samples of cabbages from traditional market and 20 samples of cabbages from modern market in Jakarta.
The result show a different parasites quantity (p value = 0,006) between cabbage from traditional market (2570 parasites) and modern market (1610 parasites). All of samples (traditional and modern market) are contaminated by STH, 9 of 20 cabbages from traditional market and 7 of 20 cabbages from modern market are contaminated by protozoa. And also there is a different parasites quantity (p value < 0,05) found in cabbage using salt-acid solution then water only. As conclusion number of parasites found in cabbages from traditional market is higher than cabbages from modern market and using salt-acid as immersion medium is better than water only."

Didapatkan 100% sampel kemangi terkontaminasi parasit usus.

Raw vegetables can increase probability of intestinal parasite transmission to human body. People believe that hygienity of raw foods sold in supermarkets, including vegetables, are better than traditional markets. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was difference in the number of intestinal parasite found in basil collected from traditional markets and supermarkets in Jakarta. There were 20 samples collected from traditional markets and 20 samples obtained from supermarkets. The samples were soaked in saturated salt solution (sodium chloride) for 24 hours. Then, the water immersion of basil was treated with sedimentation test to get the number of intestinal parasite.
A hundred percent out of 40 samples was contaminated with intestinal parasite. The number of intestinal parasite found in basil collected from traditional market was 1630/ml and from supermarket was 1400/ml (p>0,05). The highest number of contamination was come from intestinal protozoa, Giardia lamblia. Sample submersion method with saturated salt solution influenced this study (p<0,05).
This finding indicates that basil is able to be a transmission media of intestinal parasite to human body. We suggest the consumer to properly wash vegetables obtained from two groups of markets before being consumed, especially vegetables consumed without cooking."

The data were processed using SPSS 17.0 with chi square and Fischer’s exact test.
The result showed that the prevalence of intestinal parasites among children in TPA Bantar Gebang, Bekasi was 83,7% consisted of 60,8% Blastocystis hominis, 33,8% Giardia lamblia, 29,7% Trichuris trichiura, 5,4% Ascaris lumbricoides, 1,4% Entamoeba histolytica, and 0% Ancylostoma duodenale. Besides, result showed that there was no relationship between the type of job and intestinal parasitic infection (p>0.05). But in proportion, children who work as scavengers are more infected with intestinal parasites than those who are not infected although it is not significant. It needs some efforts to prevent occupational disease such as giving counseling, carrying out routine examination, using personal protective equipment and doing prohibition to children under 14 years to become workers.

The prevalence of intestinal parasites is one big problem in the world, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. The high numbers of infections mainly occur in children due to a lack of a clean and healthy lifestyle as well as a lack of knowledge of intestinal parasitic infections. Slums, such as the Garbage Final Disposal, Bantar Gebang, and daily activities are performed also be a factor in the high rate of intestinal parasitic infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the infection rate of intestinal parasites and the relationship between gender and age groups of children at Bantar Gebang. This study used a cross-sectional in May 2012 using 139 children as research subjects. Processing of research data using SPSS 17.0 program with chi-square test, Fischer's exact, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov.
The result showed as much as 72.7% of children suffered intestinal parasitic infections with the highest infection Blastoycstis hominis (52.5%). Other infections such as Giardia lamblia 30.9%, Trichuris trichiura 20.9%, Ascaris lumbricoides 4,3%, and Entamoeba histolytica 1.4%. Other results of the study also show no significant relationship between intestinal parasitic infection by gender (p> 0.05) and age groups (p> 0.05). In proportion, obtained intestinal parasitic infections are more prevalent in the female gender and age group of 6-9 years. There needs to be prevention interventions such as counseling to families and children in schools to improve their knowledge of intestinal parasitic infections and a clean healthy lifestyle to reduce the infection rate of this disease.

An infected household is risk factor in STH infection, especially in endemic area. The research of STH infection in household has not been studied. The aim of research was to know STH infection pattern of household in Kalibaru, Jakarta Utara and Batu Ampar, Jakarta Timur. This cross-sectional study held in SD 07 Pagi Kalibaru and SDI Al-Amin Batu Ampar on Juny 2012- September 2014. This research includes 118 families (84 families from Kalibaru and 34 families from Batu Ampar). STH infection was diagnosed through Kato Katz method. Socio-economic data of family was collected through questionnaire. In Kalibaru, the prevalence of A.lumbricoides in students, father, and mother in order are 34.8%, 25.8%, 28.4%. The prevalence of T.trichiura in order are 47%, 12.1%, and 10.2%. In Batu Ampar, the prevalence of A.lumbricoides in order are 6.8%, 0%, and 5.7%. There is no T.trichiura infection in Batu Ampar. Intensity of infection of A.lumbricoides and T.trichiura in Kalibaru is mild and moderate. Intensity of infection of A.lumbricoides in Batu Ampar is mild. STH infection pattern in Kalibaru is more varies than in Batu Ampar. Statistically, there is significance result of STH infection pattern in Kalibaru and Batu Ampar (p<0.05) with OR=4.62 (95% CI 1.192-17.878). The location of this research is a protection factor of STH infection (OR=0.75; 95% CI 0.582-0.966). This research supports that A.lumbricoides infection in one of household member become risk factor of A.lumbricoides transmission in endemic area (Kalibaru)."
