This research aims to examine how an increase in non interest income affects a bank’s performance which is reflected in its Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). Using 68 banks listed in ASEAN 5 countries’ stock exchanges which are Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX), Bursa Malaysia (KLSE), Singapore Exchange (SGX), Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), and Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) for 2008-2012 as samples, it was discovered that an increase in non interest income negatively affects bank performance. Bank with a higher non interest income tends to be too focused in increasing its non interest income. Therefore, its competitive performance in credit market competition, which is its main source of revenues, weakens.

This study aims to examine the relationship between product diversification and Indonesian commercial banking risk in 2008 2015. This study use balanced panel data methodology and annual data of 50 Indonesian commercial banking that consists of 25 large banks and 25 small banks.
The analysis from this study shows clear evidence that the effect of product diversification on bank risk depends highly with bank 39 s asset size. Specifically, the degree of diversification product is negatively associated with bank risk for large banks. When product diversification divided into commission and trading activities, the result shows positive and significant relationship with indonesian commercial bank risk. In addition, commission activities shows clearer relationship rather than trading activities towards Indonesian large and small commercial bank risk.
This finding seems consistent with previous studies in developing country and suggest that large banks in Indonesia must become more involved in non traditional activities because they gain the benefit of diversification. As for small banks, they need to improve their risk management if they want to become more involved in non interest income activities."

Semakin besar kekuatan pasar bank, semakin tinggi stabilitas bank.

This study aims at analyzing the volatility level of interest income and non-interest income of Indonesian listed banks during the period of 2010-2016. The sample used consisted of 30 banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Two methods are used to measure the volatility of interest and non-interest income, namely Coefficient of Variation (CV) and Risk Adjusted Performance (RAP). A correlation test is also conducted to analyze the diversification benefit of non-interest income. This study emphasizes on shareholders return whereby income variables are measured as a percentage of return on equity and total assets. The results show that non-interest income can provide diversification benefit for bank income. However, non-interest income has a higher volatility when it is compared to interest income. In addition, interest income has a higher volatility rate when it is compared to total revenue and interest income has a lower volatility rate when it is compared to return on equity before tax.
