"This book presents a comprehensive description of the hydrogeology and hydrologic processes at work in arid lands. It describes the techniques that can be used to assess and manage the water resources of these areas with an emphasis on groundwater resources, including recent advances in hydrologic evaluation and the differences between how aquifer systems behave in arid lands versus more humid areas. Also, changing climatic conditions will force water management systems to be more robust so that future water supply demands can be met as droughts become more intense and rainfall events become more intense.

ABSTRACT
Recently, clean water crisis in brackish water area is increasing, particularly during
the dry season. Water sources that have been used by residents is low. Reverse
Osmosis (RO), which serves to cultivate the soil water into clean water for the
inhabitants of brackish water area also was not functioning optimally. Because of
the need of clean water required are not available, local residents are forced to use
ground water from their wells that are salty (brackish). It encourages the
development of water purifier that can overcome the water crisis directly in the
brackish watery region. This water purifier utilizes the working principles of
filtration, adsorption, and desalination. Filtration unit uses a micro fiber filter,
adsorption units uses a combination between the zeolite adsorbent and activated
carbon, and the desalination unit used capacitive deionization as the method. This
tool is planned to be functioning with an output of 5 L. The criteria that will be
reviewed in knowing the water purifier's performance is the quality of the product
output of TDS concentrations (mg / L), conductivity (μS / cm), and decrease of salt
content (%). This research involves the variation of feed?s TDS concentration and
conductivity, the height combination of both adsorbents, and the applied voltage on
CDI cell. Desalination unit with capacitive deionization work optimally at a voltage
of 2V and saturated at 15 minutes. The maximum decrease of salt content at
desalination unit is 13.4%. The CDI cells required 1.05 kWh / m3 energy. On
filtration and adsorption unit, the best height combination of adsorbents is 40cm-
40cm (activated carbon-zeolite) that has a 17.1% reduction in salt levels. Total
decrease in salinity in the water purifier tool is 30.4%.

"The book details the innovative TERM (The Enormous Regional Model) approach to regional and national economic modeling, and explains the conversion from a comparative-static to a dynamic model. It moves on to an adaptation of TERM to water policy, including the additional theoretical and database requirements of the dynamic TERM-H2O model. In particular, it examines the contrasting economic impacts of water buyback policy and recurring droughts in the Murray-Darling Basin. South-east Queensland, where climate uncertainty has been borne out by record-breaking drought and the worst floods in living memory, provides a chapter-length case study. The exploration of the policy background and implications of TERM’s dynamic modeling will provide food for thought in policy making circles worldwide, where there is a pressing need for solutions to similarly intractable problems in water management."

Cilutung River is one of the potential water resources that plays an important role in meeting water needs, especially in Sumedang and Majalengka Districts. The drought that has occurred in the Cilutung watershed in recent years indicates that there is a need for monitoring of water availability in the watershed. Changes in land cover patterns during the last ten years as well as rainfall factors may affect water availability. The purpose of this study was to determine the annual water availability, dry season and transition seasons in the Cilutung watershed in 2009 and 2019 related to the dynamics of land cover change. Land cover maps in 2009 and 2009 were obtained from the Landsat series imagery which is classified into 6 (six) land cover classes. The method used in calculating water availability and water demand is the InVEST Water Yeild Model which is a hydrological method with a water balance approach. The calculation results show that rainfall and vegetation cover have a positive correlation with water availability, while the increase in built-up land has a positive correlation with water demand. In 2009 Sub DAS 7 had high water yields compared to other sub-watersheds, but in 2019 the highest water yield was produced by Sub DAS 6, this was due to a significant increase in built-up land in Sub DAS 7 thus increasing the value of water needs in Sub-watershed. The watershed. Sub-watersheds with high water yield can be used as input in selecting priority areas for water resource conservation to maintain water supply in the Cilutung watershed.
