"This book identifies some of the challenges, political, mathematical, community based, and pedagogical, to the mathematics register, faced by an Indigenous school, in this case a Mäori immersion school. It also details the solutions created by the collaboration of teachers, researchers and community members."

"This book provides resources and information teachers can use to examine their own classrooms in order to become more effective teachers. A general introduction introduces readers to major research purposes and types as it relates to classroom research. The book is organized by the central components of a classroom: the learners, the teachers, and classroom materials. "

"The existence of JawaBanten language and other languages in Banten contributes in making Banten as a multilingual community. As the result, the speakers of JawaBanten language have to choose the appropriate language to be spoken based on the participants , topic and the objective of their speaking. If the speakers of JawaBanten language frequently use dominant language, such as Bahasa Indonesia, Sundanese, and English in their community, the process of shifting language is happened. Therefore, schools have important role in promoting JawaBanten language by teaching it as local content, and it become oneof local government effort to protect the local language. In line with that, this paper aims to describe JawaBanten language that is used in the classrooms as local content. To explain the teaching application of JawaBanten language in classrooms, researcher conducted the research in some state schools in Serang which have implemented JawaBanten language as local content. Data was presented qualitatively after distributing questionaire to students and interviewing the teacher. This research was expected showing the fact of how the implementation of teaching JawaBanten language in the classroom. The result of the questionaire and interview hopefully will give recommendation for policy maker (local government) to make new resolution for protecting Jawa Banten language as local language."

"In this book international expert authors provide solutions for modern fundamental problems including the complexity of computing of critical points for set-valued mappings, the behaviour of solutions of ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and difference equations, or the development of an abstract theory of global attractors for multi-valued impulsive dynamical systems. These abstract mathematical approaches are applied to problem-solving in solid mechanics, hydro- and aerodynamics, optimization, decision making theory and control theory. This volume is therefore relevant to mathematicians as well as engineers working at the interface of these fields."

"The subject of this book is how to formulate a mathematical model from an English description of a problem. This book views mathematical notation as a language and develops the implications of this view for translating English text into mathematical expressions and mathematical models, i.e. for applying mathematics to problems described in English. In order to apply mathematics to a practical problem, one must first transform an English statement of the problem and the requirements for its solution into mathematical expressions. This book examines this process in detail, presents new insight into it, and develops explicit guidelines for this important step. This book identifies the basic elements (values, variables, and functions) of the language of mathematics and presents the grammatical rules for combining them into expressions and other structures. Different notational forms for expressions are described and defined. Correspondences between parts of speech and other grammatical elements in English and components of expressions in the language of mathematics are identified. These lead to useful guidelines for translating English into the language of mathematics. In addition, the book contains many examples of translating English into mathematics. The approach presented in this book makes mathematics accessible to many people who have been turned off from mathematics by their early exposure to it"-- Provided by publisher.

"The papers were elicited primarily from Mathematics for Industry: Challenges and Frontiers, a conference sponsored by SIAM in October, 2003. This conference was different from other SIAM conferences in that it was a forum for scientific experts from industry and government to meet with members of the mathematical community to discuss the visions they had for their industries and the obstacles they saw to reaching those goals.
A distinctive feature of this work is its organization. The three sections: Industrial Problems; Mathematical Responses to Industrial Problems; and The Process of Mathematical Modeling, Practice, and Education offer a process view, always initiated by a practical problem, leading to the need for responsive mathematics both at the research and educational levels. All topics are tightly integrated with contemporary computing technology. Mathematical topics include splines, modeling, computational fluid dynamics, statistical model verification, and mathematics for design and simulation.
