"The Purpose of this paper is to study the mechanical behavior of concrete blocks and prisms when performing axial compression tests within the Brazilian base of knowledge, intending to foment data of this kind for a world based networks. The block were built using five different mixtures in which the quantity of cement and the compacting ratio (density) were varied ( during the fabrication process). The three course high prisms were assembled using 1 cm (0.39 in.) thick full badded joints, always trying to leave the mortar's characteristic constant . The axial compression test were conducted according to Brazilian practice code recommendations, because most of the these standards are very similar to international practice code s. The compressive strenght, strains, and rupture form of each mixture studied were recorded . Attempts were made to correlate the strength, efficiency ratio(block strength / prism strength of the prisms, strains and rupture form ; with the quantity of cement and compacting ratio. The data are presented in tables and figures, and the obtained results are discussed throughout the text."

"In this book, which focuses on the use of iterative methods for solving large sparse systems of linear equations, templates are introduced to meet the needs of both the traditional user and the high-performance specialist. Templates, a description of a general algorithm rather than the executable object or source code more commonly found in a conventional software library, offer whatever degree of customization the user may desire.
Templates offer three distinct advantages: they are general and reusable; they are not language specific; and they exploit the expertise of both the numerical analyst, who creates a template reflecting in-depth knowledge of a specific numerical technique, and the computational scientist, who then provides "value-added" capability to the general template description, customizing it for specific needs.
For each template that is presented, the authors provide: a mathematical description of the flow of algorithm; discussion of convergence and stopping criteria to use in the iteration; suggestions for applying a method to special matrix types; advice for tuning the template; tips on parallel implementations; and hints as to when and why a method is useful."

"Kertas kerja ini membentangkan keputusan kajian makmal blok ringan konkrit apit
yang diperkukuh dengan jejaring dan teras kekotak simenfero berkekuatan tinggi. Kajian
tertumpu kepada kesan penggunaan pelbagai jenis jejaring serta lapisan jejaring bagi
menghasilkan kekotak simenfero tersebut. Dua jenis jejaring digunakan; jejaring mata punai, dan
jejaring segiempat. Keputusan ujian terhadap kekuatan mampatan, berat keseluruhan unit blok
dan mod kegagalan telah diperolehi. Keputusan dibandingkan dengan sampel kawalan yang
diperbuat dari blok konkrit tanpa diperkukuh. Hasilnya didapati kekuatan mampatan meningkat
dengan ketara bagi sampel yang diperkukuh. Manakala berat keseluruhan unit blok memenuhi
piawai bagi komponen struktur ringan. Kesan keseluruhan mendapati bahawa blok yang pada
asalnya rapuh bertukar menjadi lebih mulur degan penggunaan kekotak simenfero. "

"It is widely use of
air-conditioning systems in Thailand due to its location. It is located in a
tropical zone with relatively high temperatures all year round, with high
humidity and high intensity of sunlight. In order to save electrical energy for
air-conditioning systems, preventing heat transfer into the building is
required. The objective of this study is to investigate the physical and
thermal properties of concrete blocks. An attempt is made to increase heat
resistance of concrete blocks. Foam beads (0-0.30% by weight) and kaolin (0-70% by weight) were
added in concrete block mixture to increase discontinuous voids in concrete.
Compressive strength and water absorption of concrete blocks were tested. The
testing results indicated that compressive strength decreased when foam beads
and kaolin were added. Water absorption increased when foam beads were added.
In contrast, the more kaolin added the less water absorption. The thermal
conductivity coefficient of concrete blocks was also investigated. The results
confirmed that the higher the amount of foam beads or kaolin added, the higher
the thermal resistance of concrete blocks. Thermal time-lag behavior was also
investigated. The results indicated that concrete block with kaolin took the
longest time in heating and took the shortest time in cooling. These properties
are good for heat prevention in hot climate regions. These concrete blocks
which were developed and tested in this research conform to the Thai Industrial
Standard. Finally, it can be concluded that because of its thermal behavior,
concrete block with kaolin is a suitable energy-saving concrete block for hot
and humid climates."
