""This book challenges current views of what it means to be a citizen by focusing on displacement and experiences of space as a political concept. Developing the concept of 'political space', the author analyses how historical processes shape spatial arrangements, informing the identities and political subjectivity available to people. Using Bangladesh as a case study for camp and non-camp based displacement, the book argues that concepts of citizenship are temporally, socially and spatially produced and that therefore crude binary oppositions of statelessness and citizenship are no longer relevant. The book's findings are of relevance to wider problems of displacement, citizenship and ethnic relations worldwide"--

Salah satu contoh stateless persons ialah kaum etnis Rohingya yang dianggap sebagai the most persecuted ethnic minority in the world.

Human rights are considered inherent and cannot be arbitrarily deprived from one individual. However, the fact shows that many individuals are still arbitrarily deprived from their rights. Stateless persons, as certain individuals who are not considered as a citizen by the country they currently residing in, often experience the violation of their human rights and are not bound to any protection. One of the examples is the ethnic community of Rohingya whom UN considered as the most persecuted minority ethnic in the world. This thesis addresses the problem of human rights of stateless persons, especially the Rohingyas such as the right to nationality also, responses from the Myanmar government and the international community. The conclusion of the thesis is that the main right that should be given to the Rohingyas is the right to nationality, as the right to have rights. Nevertheless, despite of their status as stateless persons, their inherent human rights as human beings should still be enforced.

Mandat tersebut telah tertuang jelas dalam Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness 1961.

Statelessness is not a new phenomenon in international world. Statelessness has been discussed since its first appearance in the end of First World War until Second World War. United Nations has given its mandate to UNHCR to overcome the rising of statelessness in the world. Its mandate is based on Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness 1961. However, since this mandate had been set, what we can find is the total amount of stateless person is increasing. UNHCR predicted that there are up to 12 million of stateless people worldwide. Considering this fact, it caught the author attention to develop further discussion about how international response to statelessness after the creation of Convention on the reduction of statelessness 1961. In this writing, the author will also mention about the progress definition of statelessness and various causes of statelessness."
