The concept of financial stability as a global public good is one of the studies that has begun to receive attention in the academic world since various cross-border financial problems arise at the end of the 20th century. Ensuring the availability of these public goods is essential to promote sustainable economic growth, reduce the adverse effects of financial shocks, and improve social welfare. However, although this topic is fascinating to explore, the discussion is still fragmented in various academic disciplines and has not been widely studied from the perspective of International Relations. Thus, this literature review elaborates on different arguments regarding financial stability as a global public good in international relations from 23 academic sources. Using the taxonomic method, the discussion in this literature review is categorized into three major themes regarding contextualization, involvement of actors, and policy practices related to financial stability. Based on the review that has been done, this author finds that: (1) although almost all academics whose literature is discussed in this study agree that financial stability should be considered a global public good, some of them consider that a regional public goods approach will ensure its more effective provision; and (2) international institutions, especially the IMF, have a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the interrelated international financial system, even though their policy practices are often considered to be less inclusive. This author reflects that research about financial stability as a global public good must be expanded, especially to observe the dynamics of international actors involved. Further research and policy dialogues are needed to strengthen cooperation and governance in providing financial stability as a public good within the global and regional contexts."
