"In the late 1990s, Vancouver's Downtown Eastside became the setting for three monuments - Crab Park Boulder, Marker of Change and Standing with Courage, Strength and Pride. The monuments were grassroots initiatives that challenged the norms of civic art by claiming a place in public space for society's most vulnerable groups, and each figured in debates about many kinds of violence. Emphasizing the resilience and agency of artists, activists and residents, this vivid account of the creation of memory-scapes offers unique insights into the links between power, public space and social memory. Adrienne L. Burk is a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Simon Fraser University --"

"This book investigates the fascinating concept of a continuum between human memory and memory of materials. The first part provides state-of-the-art information on shape memory alloys and outlines a brief history of memory from the ancient Greeks to the present day, describing phenomenological, philosophical, and technical approaches such as neuroscience. Then, using a wealth of anecdotes, data from academic literature, and original research, this short book discusses the concepts of post-memory, memristors and forgiveness, highlights the analogies between materials defects and memory traces in the human brain. Lastly, it tackles questions of how human memory and memory of materials work together and interact. With insights from materials mechanics, neuroscience and philosophy, it enables readers to understand and continue this open debate on human memory."

ABSTRACTThis qualitative research aims to understand the phenomenon of social media as sites of memory construction of PKI and communism. This research tries to give explanation on how collective memory works on social media and its narrative and identity construction. By collecting and analyzing eleven mnemonic communitites, this research shows that the memory of PKI and communism in social media takes three forms in general, which are the dominant memory, the empty signifying memory, and the counter memory. The constructed collective identity is divided by two the particularists from which come the anticommunist groups and the universalists from which come the counter anticommunist groups. Furthermore this research argues that there are two big discourse constantly in contestation with one another, the anticommunist discourse and the human right discourse, within which the twos are used to view the 1965 Event mdash the former seeing it as the murder of seven military general and the latter seeing it as a mass murder towards the members of PKI."
