"Media massa telah lama diyakini menjadikan isu kejahatan sebagai salah satu isu utama dalam konten pemberitaannya.Kejahatan kerah putih, termasuk kejahatan korupsi didalamnya, turut menjadi isu yang sangat menarik untuk diberitakan bagi media massa. Dengan segala kemampuan media massa untuk melakukan konstruksi terhadap suatu realitas, sangat menarik untuk melihat bagaimana konstruksi kejahatan korupsi disajikan dalam halaman-halaman media cetak. Dengan menggunakan metode campuran (mix method) yang menjadikan majalah TEMPO sebagai sampel, peneliti melakukan analisis isi terhadap berita-berita korupsi yang tersaji. Didukung dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap redaktur di TEMPO, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana konstruksi yang dilakukan oleh media massa terkait dengan kejahatan korupsi. Hasil dari penelitian ini berhasil menemukan bagaimana konstruksi yang dibentuk oleh media dengan menggunakan indikator turunan dari konsep media construction of crime yang dirumuskan oleh Vincent Sacco.From a decade ago, the news media are believed to make a crime as one of the main issues in their news coverage. A white collar crime, including a corruption, undoubtly become a very interesting issues for the news coverage. With all the media?s ability to constructing a reality, it is interesting to see how the construction of corruption presented in a paper news. By using a mix method with a TEMPO weekly magazine as a sample, this thesis using a content analysist to analyze a corruption news coveraged by TEMPO. Supported by an in-depth interview with TEMPO?s editor, this thesis aims to find out how news media constructing a corruption in their news coverage. The results of this study managed to discover how the media construction of corruption crimes formed by using indicators derived from Vincent Sacco?s concept of media construction of crime."

"Artikel ini membahas isu flu burung di Indonesia dalam pemberitaan majalah Tempo tahun 2004-2007. Flu Burung yang sempat menghebohkan Indonesia pada era 2000-an membuat majalah Tempo menerbitkan edisi khusus tentang flu burung pada tahun 2004 dan 2005 dan jumlah artikelnya berkurang drastis pada 2008. Pemberitaannya memuat tentang perkembangan kasus flu burung pada unggas dan manusia di Indonesia hingga kritik terhadap kebijakan pemerintah. Potensi adanya kepentingan pemodal dan petinggi media tersebut tidak ditemukan. Selain itu, berita yang disajikan sesuai dengan fakta-fakta dalam sumber lainnya. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa majalah Tempo memenuhi fungsi media massa sebagai pilar demokrasi dan pemberi informasi yang transparan.

This article discusses the issue of Avian Influenza (AI) in Indonesia in coverage of Tempo magazine in 2004-2007. AI which shocked Indonesia in the 2000s, make Tempo magazine to publish special editions about avian influenza in 2004 and 2005, but the number of articles was drastically reduced in 2008. The news contain about AI cases in poultry & humans in Indonesia and criticism of government policy. The potential for the interests of investors and company officials was not found on the news. Futhermore, news presented in accordance with the facts in other sources. From this research it was found that Tempo magazine fulfills the function of the mass media as a pillar of democracy and a transparent information provider."
