"Naskah kuno adalah tulisan tangan yang sudah berumur lebih dari 50 tahun yang berisikan sejarah informasi penting yang dibutuhkan oleh pemustaka. Naskah kuno memiliki nilai sejarah dan informasi yang begitu penting, maka dari itu dilakukan kegiatan pelestarian naskah kuno yang dinamakan konservasi. Konservasi aktif merupakan suatu kegiatan memperbaiki atau memperpanjang umur kondisi naskah kuno. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kegiatan konservasi aktif naskah kuno di Pusat . Hasil penelitian terdahulu tertulis banyaknya naskah kuno yang rusak dan juga belum diperbaiki. Metode penelitian yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan studi kasus, dimana informasi yang diperoleh berdasarkan dari hasil wawancara dan juga observasi pada Pusat Preservasi dan Ahli Media Bahan Pustaka, Perpustakaan Nasional RI yang berada di Jalan Salemba. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, metode kegiatan konservasi aktif naskah kuno yang dilakukan Perpustakaan Nasional RI dengan cara deasidifikasi, laminasi, menambal dan menyambung dan penjilidan. Kemudian, ada beberapa kendala yang dirasakan konservator seperti keterbatasan anggaran, kurangnya sumber daya manusia, dan alat bahan yang mengakibatkan menumpuknya naskah kuno yang belum dikonservasi.

Ancient manuscripts are handwritten letters that are more than 50 years old which contain important historical information needed by readers. Ancient manuscripts have historical value and information that is so important, therefore an activity is carried out to preserve ancient manuscripts called conservation. Active conservation is an activity to improve or extend the life of ancient manuscripts. This study aims to describe the active conservation activities of ancient manuscripts at the National Library of Indonesia. The results of previous studies indicated that many ancient manuscripts were damaged and had not been repaired. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with case studies, where the information obtained is based on interviews and also observations at the Center for Preservation and Media Experts, the National Library of Indonesia which is on Jalan Salemba. The results showed that the methods of active conservation of ancient manuscripts carried out by the National Library of Indonesia were deacidification, lamination, patching and connecting and binding. Then, there are several obstacles that are felt by conservators such as limited budgets, lack of human resources, and material tools which result in the accumulation of ancient manuscripts that have not been preserved.
