Dapat disimpulkan bahwa A Song of Ice and Fire tidak menampilkan ide Orientalisme.

The concept of Orientalism can often be found in fantasy stories, where there are two sides of things: good and evil, or self and other. A Song of Ice and Fire, a contemporary fantasy novel series by George R. R. Martin, has made a seemingly Orientalist impression, especially with the clear division and depictions of its settings, the continent Westeros and Essos, which are portrayed as a civilized kingdom and a barbaric continent respectively. The naming of the continents itself seems to hint on the West and the East, a division upon which Orientalism idea is built.
This paper is aimed to further observe the series’ settings, first from the descriptions of each setting, including the geography, people, and culture, and then using Edward Said’s four principal dogmas of Orientalism to see how these settings are actually seen.
This research discovers that Westeros and Essos are equally diverse and different in their own way. Moreover, the division between the two is purely on geographical base, not opposite concepts like good and evil or self and other. It is concluded that A Song of Ice and Fire series does not portray the idea of Orientalism.

ABSTRACT This paper examines the postcolonial representation of India in the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel film. This paper analyzes the orientalist representation of India through settings, the chaos and climate of India, public transportation, and the poverty of the country. It discusses the biased perspectives of the British characters toward India and the process of intercultural adaptation. Edward Said?s orientalism and Homi K. Bhabha?s ambivalence theory are used to examine British-India postcolonial relation in the film. The dynamic concept of culture confusion is used to describe how each character deals with this intercultural experience.

This study analyses the three essential elements of the interracial relationship between Amir and Emily in Ayad Akhtar's Pulitzer Prize winning play, Disgraced. They are Emily's painting of Amir, her husband, in the style of Portrait of Juan de Pareja by Diego Vel zquez Emily's White Saviour Complex and the violence she suffered in the hands of Amir. The first two parts of the analysis will utilise the combination of Identity Construction theory by Stuart Hall, Edward Said's Orientalism, and the post 9 11 discourse of neo Orientalism.
The last part of the analysis will foreground the entire elements by utilising Stuart Hall's theory of Articulation. It will be proved that Amir's violence is an act of retaliation towards Emily's domination over the production of his identity through representation and her influence in his crucial decisions concerning his relationship with his family. Emily's victimisation and the emphasis on Amir's lsquo tribalistic bond'risk a reductionist neo Orientalist reading of the text. By acknowledging Emily's White Saviour Complex, the text can be read as a re articulation of the neo Orientalist stereotypes of 'barbaric brown man' and 'free white woman'.

The thesis discusses the problems related to Eastern and Western culture representation. The analysis which is based on Orientalism concept of Edward W. Said, shows that the narration given by a character from Eastern world represents the Eastern and Western world in a positive/negative binary opposition. Characters from the Eastern World see the Western world as an ideal subject; whereas the Western counterparts represent the Eastern world in a very stereotypical manner. Characters from Eastern world are represented people who try to deny their identity as being from the Eastern world, however the robust root of Eastern culture has become solution for the self-denial problems. The result of the analysis shows that Shanghai Baby offers a critic pertaining to stereotypical understanding and representation of Eastern and Western world."

At the beginning colonialism was the mastery of spices and agricultural products to enrich the invading country in expanding his power. In the next phase, colonialism is not only centered on the spices, rice, and sago, but also the mastery of society, or hegemony. The invaders did not just take the existing natural resources, but also establish the mindset of its human resources so that they can accept themselves as the inferior. Reversing past invaders colonized people, and distort, stain, and rewriting the history of the nation. This thesis discusses orientalism and post colonialism influence on the former colonies, especially Indonesia. This study uses literature source of the theme. The results show that knowledge and power are not separated. Those who have knowledge, they have power to lead. The sovereign has power to create the truth of knowledge. 'Us' and 'them' are words that discourse of the sovereign. Language is no longer as a means of communication but as hegemony."

ABSTRACT
This study is to analyze the Orientalism, cross cultural and feminine issues in order to find someone?s identity in The Woman Warrior, a novel written by Maxine Hong Kingston, since this novel talks about a Chinese girl who lives in America and is confused about her identity. The theoretical approach will be historical, sociological and feminist theories because they are related to the study which is to analyze a woman's life in the historical and cultural context of Chinese - American society. The result shows that Kingston is still confused to which identity she belongs to, Chinese or American. Her mother asks her to keep her Chinese tradition culture. On the other hand, her society pushes her to adapt the American culture. The narratives illustrate the impossible task of negotiating two different cultures and finding a balance to construct gender and ethnic identity. Finally, in all of narratives a similar thread reappears in the form of the past and its influence on the progression of their gender and ethnic identities.;This study is to analyze the Orientalism, cross cultural and feminine issues in order to find someone?s identity in The Woman Warrior, a novel written by Maxine Hong Kingston, since this novel talks about a Chinese girl who lives in America and is confused about her identity.

Board games have become a popular trend among people of all ages, from children to adults. They serve as a means of communication and convey certain values to the audience. Five Tribes is a board game set in the Middle East, particularly in the Arab world, with a theme inspired by the 1001 Arabian Nights, which is suspected to have Orientalist values or ideologies. Orientalism itself is an ideology that carries negative connotations, as it refers to the perception or prejudice of the Western world towards the Eastern world, shaping a "stage" of the East created by the West. Therefore, this study aims to describe the representation of Orientalism in the linguistic message structure of the board game Five Tribes. The research method chosen for this study is multimodality using social semiotics, as the media being analyzed takes various forms or is multimodal. This aligns with the perspective of social semiotics, where text creators have the freedom to communicate meaning in any form. The researcher provides an analysis of the units of analysis, which are then analyzed using social semiotics and representation studies. This can be achieved by examining written texts, images, and game pieces. Additionally, the study adopts constructivism paradigm, as the researcher approaches the units of analysis to delve into the social construction within them and social semiotics is more complex compared to other semiotic approaches. The study reveals that there are linguistic message structures containing Orientalist values in the board game titled Five Tribes, as observed from the representational and compositional metafunctions. In terms of representation, the units of analysis aim to convey specific concepts. This can be seen through the exclusive symbolism of participants within the units of analysis, depicting Arab culture, and the gameplay that treats slaves as disposable objects. The game targets an audience of 13-15-year-old children, so what initially appears as entertaining and light- hearted game content carries negative and harmful connotations. In terms of the compositional aspect, the units of analysis are prominently presented with their respectiveexclusive possessive attributes, leading to the conclusion that the text creator deliberately incorporates Orientalist values into the game."
