"Kapal container pada saat ini menjadi daya tarik bagi para customer dalam mengirimkan muatan melalui laut. Hal ini dirasakan semenjak dunia pelayaran nasional semakin berkembang dan untuk mendapatkan keuntungan maksimal kapalkapal konvensional dirasakan kurang memadai untuk transportasi laut bila dibandingkan dengan kapal - kapal container. Penelitian kali ini dilakukan untuk mendapatkan waktu siklus kapal yang optimum dengan mempertimbangkan jumlah muatan yang tersedia dan armada kapal container. Perhitungan yang dilakukan antara lain waktu berlayar kapal dan waktu di pelabuhan. Kemudian dibuat model matematis dengan pendekatan program linear yang merupakan cabang ilmu dari teori operation research. Hasil dalam penelitian ini adalah bahwa dengan pemodelan optimasi waktu siklus yang dibuat dapat dihitung jumlah perjalanan kapal per tahun dan menentukan jumlah armada kapal container yang beroperasi dengan waktu siklus yang optimal untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pasar dengan melakukan teknik peramalan jumlah muatan.

Container ships become pull power for sending cargo by sea. This circumstance is expanding in line with the growing of the national shipping in their effort to maximize the profit through the cargo they carry. Therefore, conventional ships are becoming less competitive compared to the container ships.

This research is aimed to get optimum cyclus ship time of container ships by consider the amount of available cargo and container ship fleet. The calculation is based on the sea time and port time. Then, the mathematics modeling with linear programming approach is carried out.

The research is concluded that by this modeling time cyclus optimation we can calculate the container ship voyage in a year and to decide a number of container ships that operate in cyclus time optimally to achieve market requirements based on forecasting method of loading."
