Capitalism and neoliberalism have dominated the norms and materialized within the higher education system in Indonesia. As evidence, the current education tends to direct students to become resources utilized in the process of industrialization. Therefore, neoliberalism can be considered an "ism" that influences the current education system in Indonesia and contributes to the increasing class inequality. This phenomenon becomes a significant factor in the exploitative nature of the MBKM internship program. In the MBKM internship program, there are structural barriers due to the significant corporate dominance over student interns. The purpose of this research is to describe the existence of the MBKM internship program that leads to the exploitation of student interns, analyzed through critical criminology theory. The research methodology employed is critical qualitative method, which acknowledges the need to address inequality by prioritizing the most marginalized groups in society. Data is collected from various student intern subjects who have experienced exploitation and other forms of violence. Additionally, data is obtained from the program implementers, namely colleges and study programs. The research findings indicate that student interns hold a powerless position, leading to exploitation by authoritative entities, such as corporations and government institutions. Furthermore, the lack of efficient coordination between study programs, colleges, and the government exacerbates the issue, resulting in a lack of technical legal protection for student interns. Consequently, the exploitation of student interns in the MBKM internship program is regarded as a form of modern slavery. This modern slavery involves the use of power or vulnerability and offers incentives to obtain consent from those who have control over the situation."

Emotional maltreatment has been predicted as the most common maltreatment to occur, however the cases seldom neglected, especially in college students. This study aimed to detect the existence of emotional maltreatment among young adults during college, also it’s relationship with academic resilience. Participants are 177 college students in Indonesia (83.61% women, Mage = 20.93, SD = 1.36; Mterm = 6.27, SD = 1.36 ) that have emotional interaction experiences with birth parents. Emotional maltreatment was measured with Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF), academic resilience was measured with Academic Resilience Scale-Indonesia (ARS-I). With Pearson’s correlation analysis, it is found that emotional maltreatment have a significant relationship (r(177) = -0.257, p<.001, one-tailed) with academic resilience; furthermore, emotional neglect effected academic resilience stronger than emotional abuse. This empirical finding prove that young adults still experience emotional maltreatment from birth parents and it’s effecting their quality of academic resilience."

"The author of this book addresses the two questions, what is college like for working-class students, and what is college for the working class? In The Other Three Percent, the author draws on a wealth of previous research to tell the stories of five very different working-class college students as they apply to, enter, successfully navigate, and complete college. Through these stories readers will learn about the obstacles working-class students face and overcome, the costs and effectiveness of higher education as a mechanism of social mobility, and the problems caused on our college campuses by our reticence to meaningfully confront the class divide. Readers will be invited to compare their own experiences of higher education with those of the students here described, and to evaluate their own institutions’ openness towards working-class students through a series of checklists provided in the book’s conclusion.
