"Perang yang terjadi di Afghanistan akibat dari serangan 11 September 2001 telah menginspirasi Hollywood untuk memproduksi film yang sering menceritakan dan menstereotip komunitas Muslim di Amerika. Representasi yang ditampilkan pun berubah dari waktu ke waktu. Sekarang, Hollywood tidak lagi sepenuhnya menggambarkan tokoh Muslim sebagai musuh dari dunia barat. Contohnya, film 12 Strong (2018) adalah salah satu film yang menceritakan perang Afghanistan. Film ini dipuji karena terlihat menampilkan representasi Muslim yang baik. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari bagaimana tokoh Muslim bersatu dengan tentara Amerika melawan teroris. Artikel ini akan melihat lebih jauh bagaimana tokoh Muslim direpresentasikan dalam film 12 Strong menggunakan konsep Orientalisme Edward Said. Temuan dalam artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa film ini menampilkan representasi yang bertolak belakang mengenai Muslim yang “baik” dan Muslim yang “buruk” dengan fokus utama yaitu Muslim pria. Karakterisasi Muslim yang “buruk” dikonstruksi dari gabungan sudut pandang Amerika dan Muslim Afghanistan, sedangkan karakterisasi Muslim yang “baik” dikonstruksi dari sudut pandang Amerika. Jadi, alih-alih memberikan representasi kritis Muslim dalam konteks Afghanistan, film ini mereproduksi narasi terpolarisasi yang mirip dengan film Hollywood sebelumnya.

The war that took place in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11 event has inspired Hollywood to create many movies which often address and stereotype Muslim communities in the country. This representation, however, shifts from time to time. Nowadays, Hollywood no longer completely depicts Muslim characters as totally the opposite of the Western world. 12 Strong (2018), for example, is one of the Afghan war movies that is celebrated for presenting a seemingly positive Muslim representation. This is depicted in how the Muslim characters unite with the American characters in the film to fight terrorism. This essay seeks to further examine how Muslims are represented in 12 Strong by using Edward Said’s Orientalism –framework. Findings in this article demonstrate that the film produces a polarization of “good” Muslims and “bad” Muslims in which one is juxtaposed with the other and with an exclusive focus on Muslim men.  Furthermore, the characterization of the “bad” Muslims is constructed from a combination of the perspectives of the American characters and the Muslim Afghan characters, while the characterization of “good” Muslims in the film is constructed from the Americans’ point of view. Thus, instead of providing a critical representation of Muslims in an Afghan context, this film reproduces polarized narratives similar to previous Hollywood movies that depict Islam."

"Disertasi ini mengangkat permasalahan dominasi sistem terhadap lifeworld dan konsekuensinya. Tujuannya merunut pemikiran Habermas tentang lifeworld dan sistem dan melihat relevansinya pada permasalahan metodologis maupun praktis di bidang perpustakaan. Ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan historis-faktual menggunakan metode hermeneutika romantis-kritis. Melalui teori kritisnya Habermas mengupas keadaan masyarakat yang kelihatannya baik dan ideal, dan dia mampu menunjukan segi negatifnya yang muncul dalam bentuk represi, perendahan harkat dan martabat manusia, dan terkikisnya potensi manusia untuk berkomunikasi. Habermas memahami masyarakat sebagai lifeworld dan sistem, yang dalam prosesnya keadaannya menjadi tidak seimbang. Sistem dengan landasan rasionalitas instrumentalnya lambat laun mengolonisasi, bahkan mengambil alih fungsi lifeworld yang berlandaskan rasionalitas komunikatif. Akibatnya, masyarakat ditundukan pada suatu lingkaran administratif tertutup dan menindas. Logika efisiensi mengambil alih komunikasi dan menggantinya dengan medium uang dan administrasi-birokratis. Relevansinya dengan bidang perpustakaan, perpustakaan harus dipahami sebagai suatu masyarakat yang terorganisasi sebagai sistem sekaligus lifeworld tempat berlangsungnya relasi intersubjektivitas yang dilandasi saling pengakuan dan penerimaan pengetahuan. Dengan pemahaman bahwa perpustakaan merupakan sistem dan lifeworld yang seimbang dan non-selektif pada salah satunya, ia tidak hanya bersifat administratif, dan memenuhi kepentingan teknis instrumental, tetapi juga suatu lifeworld tempat berlangsungnya proses demokratisasi pengetahuan.

This desertation discusses the problem of system domination process on lifeworld and the consequences thereof. It aims at tracing Habermas rsquo thought especially on lfeworld and system and considers its practical relevance on illuminating methodological as well as practical problem in library field. It is a qualitative research with historical factual approach using romantic critical hermeneutics. Using Critical Theory perspective, Habermas analyzes fine and ideal looking society, for its negative sides. The negative sides emerge in the form of repression, reduction of human dignity and erosion as potentials in communication. Habermas envisages society as lifeworld and system, in which process it eventually becomes unbalanced. System in its instrumental rationality inclines to colonize and take over the function of lifeworld . As a result society is subject to administrative circle which is cloistered and repressive. That efficiency logic takes over the communication and replaces it through the money and birocratic administration media. In its relevance to library field, it should be understood as society organized as lifeworld and system in which an ongoing place of intersubjectivity relation based on mutual recognition and learning acceptance. By understanding that a library is a balanced system and lifeworld and non selective at either side, a library is not only administrative and fulfilling instrumental technical interests, but a lifeworld in which learning democratizing process is in progress."

"Tesis ini mendiskusikan mengenai proses penciptaan karya fotografi dalam konteks lifeworld fotografer di dunia nyata dan dunia maya. Dalam kedua dunia tersebut tidak menutup kemungkinan kehidupan pribadi dan publik fotografer melebur menjadi satu sebagai dasar dalam proses penciptaan karya fotografi. Pendekatan sosial media ethnography digunakan untuk melihat aktivitas media sosial yang dilakukan secara online juga dipengaruhi oleh aktivitas secara offline. Instagram merupakan tempat bagi fotografer untuk beraktivitas secara online dan mempublikasikan karya yang telah diciptakan. Penelitian ini memerlukan waktu selama April 2018 sampai dengan September 2018. Sebagai fotografer yang merasa dirinya berada dalam kehidupan masyarakat, dan akan memperlihatkan karya yang diciptakannya mampu menunjukkan kebermaknaan diri dan karyanya. Analisis lifeworld memberikan 3 (tiga) rangkaian proses dalam penciptaan karya yaitu (1) proses pandangan; (2) proses interaksi; dan (3) proses imajinasi di mana dalam masing-masing proses memiliki hubungan satu dengan lainnya untuk memberikan an imaginative message terhadap karya fotografi yang telah diciptakan. Kemana arah karya fotografi akan dilabuhkan menjadi dasar penciptaan karya itu sendiri, menciptakan karya yang memiliki makna bagi penonton merupakan tanggung jawab besar yang harus dipenuhi oleh fotografer. Instagram sebagai tempat pameran maya, merupakan wadah bagi fotografer untuk dapat menunjukkan kebermaknaan diri dan karyanya, serta menempatkan karya fotografinya sebagai manfaat bagi orang lain yang menontonnya. Simpulannya adalah lifeworld fotografer dalam dunia maya dan dunia nyata merupakan bagian penting dalam proses penciptaan, serta kepekaan yang timbul dari pribadi lain juga penting dalam bagian proses penciptaan karya fotografi.

This Thesis discusses the process of creating photography in the context of lifeworld photographers in the real world and cyberspace. In both worlds it does not rule out the possibility that the photographers personal and public life will become one as the basis for the process of creating photography. The social media ethography approach used to view social media activities conducted online is also influenced by offline activities. Instagram is a place for photographers to move online and publish works that have been created. This research requires from April 2018 to September 2018. As a photographer who feels in the life of the community, and will show the work that created is able to show the meaning of self and works. Lifeworld analysis provides 3 (three) processes in the creation of works, namely (1) the process of view; (2) the interaction process; and (3) the process of imagination in which each process has a relationship with one another to provide an imaginative message to the photography work that has been created. Where the direction of the photography work will be anchored becomes the basis of the work itself, creating a work that has meaning for spectactor who is responsible for the photographer. Instagram as a virtual exhibition venue, is a place for photographers to be able to show the meaning of themselves and thei work, and place their photography works as benefits for others who watch them. The conclusion is that lifeworld photographers in cyberspace and the real world are an important part of the creation process, and the sensitivity arising from other personalities is also important in the part of the process of creating photography works."

"Tulisan ini berusaha memahami musik gereja Kristen Protestan dalam sudut pandang pemusik gereja volunteer. Sebagai pendahuluan, saya menekankan aspek keragaman dalam komunitas dan musik Kristen. Hal itu menjadi jalan masuk untuk memahami bahwa musik gereja tidak dilihat sebagai sebuah konsep atau pengetahuan abstrak melainkan tertanam dalam keseharian dan transformasi yang dimaknai di dalam sebuah rangkaian pengalaman. Penelitian ini menggunakan sudut pandang fenomenologi dengan artikulasi antara konsep pengalaman dan teori lifeworld. Penelitian dilakukan melalui pengamatan dan wawancara mendalam dengan tiga informan yang merupakan pemusik gereja ‘tanpa bayaran’. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ada lima aspek yang membentuk hubungan intersubjektivitas antara seorang pemusik dengan lingkungan di mana individu bermain, yaitu (1) proses skill mastering; (2) ambivalensi perasaan; (3) improvisasi; (4) regenerasi pemusik; (5) transformasi makna. Lima aspek ini mempengaruhi pemusik dalam memaknai ekspresi musik dalam konteks bermain maupun mendapat imbalan yang berujung pada nilai pemusik volunteer.

This research tries to understand Christian Protestant Music from the perspective of volunteer church musician. As the beginning, i emphasizes aspects of diversity in Christian community and music. This is an entry point to understand that church music is not seen as a concept or abstract knowledge but embedded in everyday life and transformation that interpreted in a series of experiences. This study uses a phenomenological point of view with articulation between the concept of experience and theory of lifeworld. The research was conducted through observations and in-depth interviews with three informants who are church musicians 'without payment'. Based on the result of the study, there are five aspects that form the intersubjectivity relationship between a musician and environment in which individual play, namely (1) the process of mastering skills; (2) ambivalence of feeling; (3) improvisation; (4) musician regeneration; (5) transformation of meaning. These five aspects influence musicians in interpreting musical expressions in context of playing and getting rewards that result in the value of volunteer musicians."

"This research is an attempt to delve into understanding the process of creative imagination of the sacred which is revealed in the intertwining of culture and nature in Geriana Kauh, Karangasem, Bali. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the individual, the social and ecology, as well as the transformation of individual consciousness into a collective awareness sharing a communal reality. This qualitative research is developed by incorporating theoretical analysis and formulating field data collected in the traditional Village of Geriana Kauh, as the villagers resort to their cultural resources to deal with the cosmological imbalances caused by pandemics. By means of a phenomenological examination, this investigation underlines the dynamic interlocking of the cultural and the natural worlds."
