"Dalam diskursus sains, sains merupakan upaya global dan universal yang mengusung nilai-nilai sains seperti rasionalitas, transparansi, bebas bias, dan penuh pertimbangan yang dianggap juga dianut secara universal oleh para peneliti dan pelaku praktik sains. Konferensi ilmiah internasional yang melibatkan komunitas ilmiah internasional dianggap sebagai “kanal transfer pengetahuan” yang seringkali juga dianggap bebas bias dan apolitis seperti definisi sains klaim Barat. Padahal, perpindahan pengetahuan tidak lebih bebas konflik dibandingkan dengan perpindahan manusia yang berlangsung dalam struktur sosial, dengan relasi dominan-subdominan, serta dinamika kekuasaan. Dengan menggunakan critical discourse analysis, penelitian ini menyelidiki secara kritis simposium ilmiah internasional Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium (2011-2023) sebagai sebuah peristiwa komunikatif dalam diskursus sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi terjadinya reproduksi kekuasaan dalam simposium tersebut lewat analisis buku program serta wawancara para aktor kunci. Dengan menganalisis properti-properti simposium (antara lain, pendanaan, disiplin ilmu, topik, gender) baik yang dimiliki kelompok dominan maupun kelompok subdominan, yakni Indonesia dan Amerika Serikat, penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana reproduksi kekuasaan terjadi dalam penyelenggaraan Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium.

In scientific discourse, science is a global and universal endeavor promoting values like rationality, transparency, unbiasedness, and consideration. International scientific conferences, involving global scientific communities, are seen as “knowledge transfer channels” perceived as unbiased and apolitical, aligning with Western definitions of science. However, knowledge transfer is not immune to conflicts, occurring within social structures marked by dominant-subordinate relationships and power dynamics. This research employs critical discourse analysis to critically investigates the international scientific symposium Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium (2011-2023) as a communicative event in science discourse. This research aims to identify the occurrence of power reproduction in the symposium through the analysis of program books and interviews with key actors. By analysing the properties of the symposium (e.g., funding, fields, topics, gender), owned by the dominant group and the subdominant group, namely the relationship between Indonesia and the United States, this study examines how the reproduction of power occurs in the organizing of the Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium."
