"Relasi kuasa merupakan hubungan yang menunjukkan bentuk kekuasaan yang tidak setara antara pihak yang satu dengan pihak yang lain. Dalam kajian poskolonialisme, terdapat relasi kuasa antara pihak yang superior dan inferior di mana pihak inferior sudah mampu melakukan resistensi. Fragmen De Onschuld van Een Vis karya Alfred Birney (1995) menceritakan tentang konflik batin seorang anak berdarah Indo (Indonesia-Belanda) yang memegang posisi inferior dalam relasi kuasa dengan ayah kandungnya sendiri. Konflik dalam cerita semakin tajam dengan hadirnya sosok wanita yang secara tidak langsung berperan aktif sebagai media antara Hij dan ayahnya sehingga pada akhirnya kehadiran wanita tersebut akan berpengaruh terhadap relasi kuasa antar tokoh dalam cerita. Jurnal ilmiah ini membahas bagaimana relasi kuasa antara Hij, Wanja dan tokoh Ayah direpresentasikan dan juga menemukan siapa tokoh yang memegang kekuasaan tertinggi.

A power relation is a relation that shows unequal power between one side and another. In a postcolonialism study, there are a power relations between the superior and inferior where the inferior had been able to perform resistance. Fragment De Onschuld van Een Vis by Alfred Birney (1995) told us about a psychological conflict in a mix-blooded kid (Indisch-Nederland) who held the inferior position in the power relation with his biological father. The conflict in the story gets more complicated with the presence of a woman who indirectly took a big part as a mediator between Hij and his father, which eventually , her presence would affect the power relation between characters in the story. This scientific journal discussed about how power relation between Hij, Wanja and the Father are represented and also finding which character held the highest power."

"Lingkungan keluarga merupakan fondasi awal yang membentuk identitas sosial seseorang, terutama peran orang tua. Dalam kehidupan orang-orang dari keluarga broken home di masa poskolonial, identitas sosial seringkali menjadi isu sentral. Krisis identitas yang berujung pada rekonstruksi identitas tidak hanya dialami oleh keturunan Indo di Indonesia, namun juga di Belanda, seperti yang dialami tokoh utama dalam fragmen De Onschuld van Een Vis karya Alfred Birney. Tulisan ini berusaha memaparkan bagaimana proses rekonstruksi identitas sosial dipengaruhi oleh faktor sejarah, budaya dan lingkungan sosial. Dalam menganalisis permasalahan identitas sosial ini, metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian deskriptif dengan mempelajari situasi, tata cara, sikap, pandangan dan terutama dialog di dalamnya. Selain itu, penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan poskolonial. Di akhir pembahasan, terlihat bahwa ternyata peran ayah sebagai faktor utama yang merupakan figur negatif pembentuk identitas awal tokoh utama juga terlibat secara implisit di balik faktor budaya dan lingkungan sosial dalam proses rekonstruksi identitas sosial tokoh utama tersebut.

Family environment is a basic foundation that establishes someone’s social identity, parents’ role is the foremost. For ones lives from a broken home family in post-colonial period, social identity is often considered a central issue. Crisis of identity that led into reconstruction of identity is not only experienced by Indo people that stayed in Indonesia, but also in the Netherlands, as it showed by the main character in one of chapters from De Onschuld van Een Vis by Alfred Birney. This paper tries to describe how reconstruction process of social identity influenced by historical, cultural and social environment. Descriptive research is used to analyze this social identity issue. This method has always been used to study situations, manners, attitudes, views, and especially dialogues in fragment. For addition, this is a qualitative study that using a post-colonial approach. At the end of this paper, we would see that the fact is the father's role as the main factor of a negative figure that formed the main character’s early identity, also implicitly involved behind the cultural and social environment in that reconstruction process of the main character’s social identity."

"Karya ilmiah ini membahas posisi tokoh Frans pada fragmen “De Veertigste Dag” dalam roman Onder de Sneeuw een Indisch Graf karya Frans Lopulalan. Tokoh ini berada dalam dua komunitas, yaitu komunitas Maluku dan komunitas Belanda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pendekatan struktural Erica van Boven dan Gilis Dorleijn dan Burhan Nurgiyantoro digunakan dalam menganalisis unsur tokoh dan latar cerita. Selanjutnya, permasalahan identitas tokoh Frans dianalisis dengan pendekatan identitas budaya Stuart Hall.

This scientific paper discusses the character of Frans on fragment “De Veertigste Dag” in roman Onder de Sneeuw een Indisch Graf created by Frans Lopulalan. This figure lives in two communities, namely the Moluccan community and the Dutch community. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The structural approach of Erica van Boven, Gilis Dorleijn and Burhan Nurgiyantoro are used in analyzing the character and setting of the story. Furthermore, the character identity issue of Frans is analyzed by the cultural identity approach of Stuart Hall."
