ABSTRACT
Dynamic characteristics of structure which consist of natural period of vibration
and mode shape of an existing structure can be obtained from analysis of vibration
monitoring data of the structure.
In this research, an experimental vibration monitoring field investigation is
presented. The experimental procedure involves instrumenting 5 triaxial
accelerometer that located on bridge deck in a few layout arrangements. By
implementing Fourier Transform structure response in frequency domain is
obtained. From this response spectrum natural period of vibration and mode shape
of structure can be extracted. Finite element model of the bridge using MIDAS
software is validated against experimental results.
Result shows that from experimental, modal extraction of 5 first mode of the
bridge has been accomplished. Natural period based on experimental result shows
identical result compared to the modelling results with average error of 12.364%.
Mode shape based on experimental result and modelling result are also identical.
By implementing Half Power Bandwidth method damping ratio of bridge is
ranging from 1.757% to 5.13%."

"This monograph presents an introduction to Harmonic Balance for nonlinear vibration problems, covering the theoretical basis, its application to mechanical systems, and its computational implementation.
Harmonic Balance is an approximation method for the computation of periodic solutions of nonlinear ordinary and differential-algebraic equations. It outperforms numerical forward integration in terms of computational efficiency often by several orders of magnitude. The method is widely used in the analysis of nonlinear systems, including structures, fluids and electric circuits. The book includes solved exercises which illustrate the advantages of Harmonic Balance over alternative methods as well as its limitations. The target audience primarily comprises graduate and post-graduate students, but the book may also be beneficial for research experts and practitioners in industry."
