"The paper presents some early outputs from a study considering Papua’s economic development options. Rich in mineral and forestry wealth, Papua paradoxically suffers the highest levels of poverty in Indonesia; it can be argued that uneven income distribution is as significant as a lack of wealth, or potential. Using secondary data sources the paper looks at how economic development options impact on Papua. However, it concludes that unless Papua resolves its chronic energy shortages economic development will be constrained. Therefore, it considers a number of sustainable energy sources including jatropha and sago and clean technologies: biodiesel, ethanol and anaerobic digestion. An initial cost benefit feasibility study is presented for each option, prior to making some early observations on their economic, social and environmental impact."

In Indonesia, oil and gas energy is still the main supplier of domestic energy needs. As much as 37.56% The level of domestic oil production only reached 746,000 bpd, far below the domestic energy demand of 1.8 million bpd. Oil production wells in Indonesia have entered the final age of production. A strategy to increase oil production recovery in the form of the application of enhanced oil recovery technology such as CO2-injection EOR, well workover, and infill drilling has been proposed. The research parameters are focused on the comparison of the increase in the amount of oil production lifting production against the additional investment costs needed to see the economic relationship. The results showed that a total investment of US$ 30.61 million was required to implement the three technologies so as to increase the total lifting of oil production by 143 bbl/d. The economic analysis using NPV resulted in an NPV of US$3.7 million with an IRR of 25% for the application of the technology. Analysis using Cox, Ross, Rubinstein (CRR) and Binomial Lattice resulted in a project valuation of well quality improvement of US$ 25.72 million compared to the NPV method of US$ 23.68 million."

Deforestation is a worldwide conservation problem in tropical forests. Conducting spatial and temporal analysis is necessary to identify the trends and causes of deforestation. Sumatra, an island in Indonesia, experienced significant deforestation, with the Kerinci Seblat landscape being one of the few crucial forests. This study utilizes spatial and temporal forest monitoring data from the Tropical Moist Forest dataset, along with field validation data, to analyze and describe deforestation. The analysis is based on nine predictor variables, namely Kerinci Seblat National Park zonation, deforestation neighbourhood, forestry concessions, altitude, patrol routes, social forestry, fire hotspots, distance from settlements, and mining concessions. The study utilized historical deforestation data from 1986 to 2015, with deforestation from 2016 to 2020 being analyzed as the response variable. This study employs the Generalized Linear Modeling framework in the R programming language to identify the optimal model for predicting deforestation in the Kerinci Seblat Landscape between the years 2020 until 2045. The study findings indicate that deforestation tends to decline and mostly transpires near human activities and communities. The efficacy of patrol operations in forestalling deforestation highlights the necessity for a more strategic allocation of resources. The presence of social forestry, mining, and forestry concessions in the vicinity of Kerinci Seblat National Park has a substantial impact on deforestation. This emphasizes the need for sustainable practices and more comprehensive interventions for environment protection."
