"Gaeseong Industrial Complex (GIC) merupakan bentuk kerjasama ekonomi antara Korea Selatan dan Korea Utara yang disepakati pada masa Pemerintahan Kim-Daejung. Setelah naiknya Pemerintahan Lee Myung-Bak yang konservatif, pada nyatanya keberadaan GIC tetap dipertahankan. Dengan kemunculan berbagai konflik politik di Semenanjung Korea yang kian memperburuk hubungan kedua Korea, keputusan Korea Selatan tersebut menjadi sebuah hal yang dapat dipertanyakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Korea Selatan memiliki dua kepentingan utama dalam GIC, yaitu kepentingan ekonomi dan kepentingan politik, yang menunjukkan pemahaman pendekatan fungsionalisme dalam persepsi Pemerintahan Lee Myung-Bak terhadap GIC.

Gaeseong Industrial Complex (GIC) is a form of economic cooperation between South Korea and North Korea, agreed during Kim Dae-Jung’s administration. After Lee Myung-Bak’s administration which is conservative has inaugurated, in fact the existence of GIC was still being endured. With the political tensions risen up in Korean Peninsula which are worsening the Inter-Korean relations, these South Korea’s decision is questionable. The results of this research shows that South Korea has two major interests in GIC, which are economic interest and political interest, showing the understanding of functionalism approach on the perception of Lee Myung-Bak’s administration towards GIC."
