"Skripsi ini menjelaskan mengenai usaha pemerintah Amerika Serikat untuk membebaskan Allen Lawrence Pope. Pada tahun 1957, pemerintah Amerika Serikat memutuskan untuk membantu pemberontakan PRRI/Permesta untuk menghadapi komunisme di Indonesia. Pada saat itu kekuatan PKI semakin kuat di Indonesia, terutama di Jawa. Pemerintah Amerika Serikat berusaha untuk membendung komunisme di Indonesia dengan cara memberikan bantuan kepada para pemberontak yang dinilai sebagai kekuatan antikomunis. Amerika Serikat memberikan bantuan kepada para pemberontak dilakukan secara rahasia. Allen Pope merupakan pilot CIA yang membantu pemberontakan di Sulawesi. Pada tanggal 18 Mei 1958 pesawat tempur Allen Pope ditembak oleh pasukan pemerintah Indonesia sehingga keterlibatan Amerika Serikat diketahui oleh pihak Indonesia. Setelah Allen Pope tertangkap, hubungan Indonesia dan Amerika Serikat menjadi tidak baik. Pemerintah Amerika Serikat berusaha untuk memperbaiki hubungan luar negeri dengan Indonesia. Selain itu, pemerintah Amerika Serikat berusaha untuk membebaskan Allen Pope.

This thesis describes the effort United States to release CIA’s pilot, Allen Lawrence Pope. In 1957, United States administration decided that they will help PRRI/Permesta rebellion to against communism in Indonesia. At that time PKI had strong power over Indonesia, especially in Java. United States administration against communism in Indonesia with their aid to rebellion. They thought that rebellion are anti-communism. United States administration secretly gave their aid to rebellion. Allen Pope was a CIA pilot. CIA ordered him to help the rebellion in Celebes. On May 18, 1958 Allen Pope was shot down by anti-craft fire and captured while making a bombing attack upon shipping in Ambon. After that incident, United States administration tried to approach Indonesia administration and they gave more effort to realease Allen Pope."
