"Comparative studies can reveal much about how law is formed out of social reality and political power by exploring these interactions in different national contexts. In this work Mauricio García-Villegas compares ideas about law and society in France and the United States, demonstrating different approaches to sociopolitical legal studies. Using the interdisciplinary tools of the sociology of law, critical legal theory, and sociolegal studies, García-Villegas builds up an insightful overview of what constitutes law and society theory and practice in France and the United States. He brings together diverse perspectives and practices that generally do not communicate well with one another, as is often the case between the critical theory of law of jurists and the legal sociology of sociologists. This study will allow readers to understand the sociology of law in a comparative perspective and sets out a new research agenda for the field of sociopolitical legal studies."

"Tesis ini membahas tentang ideologi yang terbentuk di balik penulisan kembali sejarah dunia dalam anime "Hetalia Axis Powers" karya Hidekazu Himaruya. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori Semiotika Barthes dengan didukung teori Representasi Hall dan Oposisi Biner, serta teknik sinematografis. Di balik penggambaran kembali sejarah dunia dalam "Hetalia Axis Powers" adalah ideologi superioritas bangsa Jepang, penonjolan keunikan bangsa Jepang (nihonjinron), identitas bangsa, dan adanya kecenderungan dukungan terhadap wacana normalisasi militer Jepang.

This thesis analyses the ideology behind the re-writing of world history in anime "Hetalia Axis Powers" by Hidekazu Himaruya. The theories which used are Hall's Representation, Barthes Semiotic, Binary Opposition, and cinematography technique. Behind the re-writing of world history in "Hetalia Axis Powers" are Japanese superiority ideology, emphasis on Japanese uniqueness, nation identity, and a tendency to support Japan's military normalization plan."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan police powers doctrine dalam putusan-putusan ICSID. Konsep police powers doctrine berhubungan erat dengan konsep ekspropriasi tidak langsung. Berdasarkan police powers doctrine, tindakan negara yang tergolong dalam lingkup police powers doctrine dan yang menyebabkan kerugian kepada investor, adalah tidak termasuk sebagai ekspropriasi tidak langsung, dan karenanya tidak menimbulkan kewajiban bagi negara untuk membayar kompensasi. Ketiga putusan ICSID yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini telah mengakui police powers doctrine dalam pertimbangan putusannya. Namun, belum ada pemahaman yang jelas dan konsisten berkaitan dengan penerapan dari doktrin ini. This research is aimed to analyze the practice of police powers doctrine in ICSID awards. The concept of police powers doctrine is closely related to the concept of indirect expropriation. According to the police powers doctrine, a state measure that falls within the state’s police powers resulting in loss of property to the investors does not constitute an indirect expropriation, and, accordingly, does not give rise to an obligation for the state to compensate. The three ICSID awards analyzed in this research have all recognized police powers doctrine in its consideration. However, there is no clear and consistent understanding regarding the implementation of this doctrine."
