Many different reactor systems have been proposed and some of these have been developed to prototype and commercial scale. Six types of reactor (Magnox, AGR, PWR, BWR, CANDU and RBMK) have emerged as the designs used to produce commercial electricity around the world. A further reactor type, the so-called fast reactor, has been developed to full-scale demonstration stage. These various reactor types will now be described, together with current developments and some prototype designs."

"Penelitian dalam tesis ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesiapan Indonesia dalam pembangunan Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Nuklir (PLTN). Kesiapan ini diketahui dari seberapa besar kontribusi industri Indonesia dalam memproduksi komponen- komponen PLTN yang dikelompokkan menjadi 4 subsisteni yaitu primary subsystem, secondary subsystem, construction/civil subsystem dan balance and protection subsystem. Analisis dilanjutkan dengan melihat kernampuan komponen yang diproduksi industri Indonesia dalam menghasilkan devisa atau yang biasa dikenal dengan efisiensi perusahaan dalam menghemat atau menghasilkan devisa melalui domestic resource cost yaitu dengan melihat proporsi biaya sumber daya lokal dan biaya sumber daya luar negeri dalam menghasilkan nilai tambah.
Research in this thesis aims to determine the readiness of Indonesia in the construction of nuclear power plant. This readiness is known of how much contribution the industry Indonesia in producing nuclear components are grouped into 4 system is the primary subsystem, secondary subsystem, construction / civil subsystem and balances and protection subsystem. The analysis continued by looking at the ability of Indonesias industrial components produced in generating foreign exchange or commonly known by the companys ejficiency in saving or generating foreign exchange through domestic resource cost by looking at the proportion of the cost of local resources and the cost of offshore resources in generating added value."
