Canada is a country that historically holds a key role in various issues and international organizations, such as peacekeeping operations, climate change policy, and also the creation of the United Nations and the G20. That being said, research on Canadian foreign policy (CFP) outside of Canada—especially Indonesia—is minimal. Therefore, this paper is written with the aim to map out the development of academic literature on Canadian foreign policy since 1939. This paper analyses 66 academic literatures which consists of journal articles, monographs, and chapters in edited volumes. The methodology used in this paper is taxonomy. The analysis of these literatures are done through three main themes (1) foundations of Canadian foreign policy, (2) regional dimensions in Canadian foreign policy, and (3) issues in Canadian foreign policy. The findings of this paper is that Canadian foreign policy is influenced by two ideas, which are (1) internationalism through Canada’s miltilateral relations and (2) peace, order, and good government which are based on Canada’s constitution. Realism is also used in Canada’s relation with the USA. Other than that, Canada also has a highly inconsistent foreign policy due to the fluctuation of commitments seen in various issues and regions until now."

"ABSTRAK
The discussion of regional leadership in South East Asia tends to be dominated by analysis of the relationship between the United States and China. Looking beyond great power competition this paper examines Indonesia`s perception of China in Southeast Asia. This is worth studying because Indonesia is the largest country in Southeast Asia and has its own aspirations of regional leadership.
This paper analyses how China`s leadership is perceived by the Indonesian government and national media through a content analysis of government documents and media reports from 2008-2015. This
paper argues that overall China had been portrayed positively by both the Indonesian government documents and media. However, despite this positive portrayal of China, concerns regarding Beijing?s leadership aspirations in SEA continues to have an impact on Indonesian policy. Concerns include the impact of China?s trade policies upon Indonesia`s economy, the potential use of joint port infrastructure projects under China`s 21st Century Maritime Silk Road program for military purposes,
and Beijing`s territorial claims which overlap with Indonesian territory. This concern has manifested in an Indonesian hedging strategy regarding China. This strategy includes the introduction of Indonesia?s Maritime Axis initiative and the militarisation of Indonesian territory adjacent to the South China Sea. It is therefore apparent that while China is, on the surface, perceived positively there are areas of potential tension which continue to affect Indonesia`s decisions and actions."

"John F. Kennedys thousand days as president coincided not only with the crisis years of the Cold War, but also with the most fractious period in the Canada-United States relationship since the War of 1812. Thanks in part to mounting Canadian nationalist sentiment, Kennedy confronted a host of issues with Canada magnified by Canadian concerns over their countrys close economic, cultural, military, and diplomatic links with the United States. The early 1960s saw tensions in Canada-US relations as growing numbers of Canadians came to question both their governments quiet support for US leadership in the cold war and American economic and military hegemony. Canadas prime minister, John Diefenbaker, with whom Kennedy had a tense relationship, personified these sentiments. While the young president and his administration have often been criticized for stirring up anti-US opinion due to their conduct toward Canada, Camelot and Canada shows that US foreign policymakers dealt with Ottawa in a judicious manner that took account of Canadian nationalism as well as Canadian concerns. In re-examining this fascinating period in Canada-US relations, this book makes clear that the special relationship between Canadian and US officials continued to function, even as the overall bilateral relationship suffered due to nationalist attitudes and differences over major foreign policy issues, from the Cuban revolution to Britains decision to join the European Common Market. The image that emerges of Kennedy is of a policymaker who was pragmatic in his handling of his countrys increasingly nationalistic northern neighbor.
